as some of you know i have a running despute with ebay over the punishment policies when you get a  over  a line of cancellations -- with me i have had 6 cancellations over the last year or so all had to do with cancelling orders when the customer wouldn't ablige or didn't know how  so to help the customer out i canceled - some do to products when inspecting for ship ment have found to have damage or some due to ebay relisting items i have already sold mixture of both -- my promo listing which i used extenstivly and at high precentage points that seemed to work for me  6% to 8%-- when i reached 2 % that being when i got the the six cancellation over a year time  they cancelled all my promo listings -- increased my ebay fees by 6% - all over 6 lousey cancellations over a year time period when all the customers got their money back and most reordered other products same or next day- and most gave me a good report - 

accepting what i couldn't change -- i went into seller discount mode and reduced all my products by 30

% on avg  running sales on a weekly  basis i was able to increase my sales to one a day quite an improvement for me 

from two sales  a week before - the loss in income i had to accept  quite  a bit of money for me somethings sold at cost - so there by- losing even more money -  my cost of sales at ebay is now 26 % of my sales with a change of how i do postage - i was able to bring postage costs down to less than 10 percent avg  so my total now

36% to 40 % - which i think from when i started out getting penatyized  it was 46-48%cost of sales 

but on the 20 th of this month i expected with the increase in sales and no problems with any sales the bad boy number would go down so i could get reduced seller fees and promo listings back but noooooooooooo

it only dropped from 2.9 at the start of the month it was as high as 3.3 starting into the month to 2.20 now on the 21th of this month - still not under the 1.99 they require- hard work--- loss of money - doing hours and hours redoing my listings have got me very very little inprovement --- not much can be done -- the boss is the boss -- so i will continue to lose money trying to improve things i will stay on this course running many sales increasing the discount each week or so till dec 20 th i guess maybe things will change then - its my birthday dec 20th and i will offically be considered a old guy -- this post is just an update from my many posts before -- and a warning -- don't help customers out it only causes you pain - i guess after dec 20 th i will fight them tooth and nail -

I don't understand that statement. "Helping out" a buyer when they ask you to cancel an item does not penalize you in any way as long as you use 'buyer requested cancellation.'  You can also cancel if there is a 'problem with address'.  You mentioned that some buyers couldn't figure out how to cancel or would not cancel...that is likely because buyers can NOT cancel an order, only the seller can.  A buyer can request to cancel within the first hour after a purchase but that is simply a request.  They can also send a message to ask to cancel after that but again, it is up to the seller on whether or not do they cancel. However, in most cases, if the buyer has initiated a cancellation and the item hasn't been shipped, it is best for the seller to cancel. 

Of course in order to use the buyer requested cancellation option, the buyer actually has to ask you to cancel.  When you are cancelling because an item is out of stock or damaged, that is not a buyer requested cancellation or a cancellation.  Those are considered seller initiated cancellations and the out of stock/damaged cancellation option should be used.   eBay frowns upon those types of cancellations because it disappoints buyers when you can't send them what they purchased. As you found out, too many of those can cause you grief.

just got a update today tuesday my defect rate just dropped from 2.20 to 2.19 so there is some sign of improvement
