"that's just how eBay Stores work. "

Maybe I need another cup of coffee.

What is the point to offer Canadian dollar prices if these items are NOT available to Canadian buyers, contrary to your earlier statement that we would be able to buy the shipping supplies from the USA + taxes + shipping?

Also have you noticed that some of these supplies are clearly identified as eBay.com not just eBay as previously stated?

The URL you sent me is a .com URL. Technically, you aren't looking at a Canadian page. You're looking at a US eBay Store, on eBay.com, which shows you prices converted according to where you are located. If you looked at the same store while in Japan, you'd see the same prices in Yen.

Regarding the availability to Canadians, keep in mind that the store you're looking at has launched a while ago, strictly for the US market. These items are not available for shipping to Canada yet. At this time I don't know whether the supplies that will be available to Canadian sellers once the new stores subscriptions come into effect are going to be offered from the same eBay store or not.

Lastly, you're right, there seems to be a .com URL on these. It isn't the case with the shipping supplies that were sent to us at the Canadian office. Sorry for the confusion.

What is the status of Turbo Lister?

In a recent topic, I can't remember which, perhaps the CAD USD topic, Rodney said Turbo Lister was being dropped or something to that effect. It was questioned in that topic but no one from eBay explained what was meant.

OK - A more difficult question for you this afternoon.

re: Global Shipping Service offered by eBay (GSP)

For the last three years, eBay incorporated the Pitney Bowes ($4/$5) handling fee into the extra shipping charge when an item was valued at less than Cdn$ 20.00 and was adding the Pitney Bowes fee ($4/$5) to "import charge" (in addition to taxes and duty if applicable)

For the last few days, eBay seems to have changed that policy again (it was last changed about three years ago) and no longer shows "import charge" for items in the $25-$40 range.  Instead it incorporates the PB handling fees into the shipping charge and seems to ignore the tax (GST/HST) that would otherwise be payable on those $25/$40 taxable items.

Could you confirm the exact nature of the change and what happens to the tax not being charged to Canadian buyers?

This is a new unpublished - not advertised - eBay policy change affecting Canadian buyers.

Turbo Lister is no longer supported by eBay, though if it's still working for you, that's pretty cool.

We will not be updating that product. Since it works through our trading API, what will happen is that after June 1st, any listing you attempt to submit to the eBay.ca site in USD will generate an error and will not list.

Having said that, Turbo Lister did support eBay.com listing when we supported it. Give it a shot. Hopefully it will still work for you. It's getting long in the tooth.

We did make changes on a certain portion of GSP items. We made adjustments that will ultimately take some of the costs out of the equation, resulting in lower shipping costs for buyers. I'm not exactly sure of the internal mechanics of this, but it is the result of months of research and testing. What I've personally observed is that the impacted items now are back to or much closer to what shipping was for the same items before GSP came about. I have made a few purchases myself on these and got no hidden costs comparing the item page estimate to what I got at checkout.

Turbo Lister isn't maintained anymore but is still available to use and as Rodney said, is built to work via the eBay API, which means that the program itself doesn't need to get updated in order to keep up with changes we make to the selling flows. I don't know of any plans to retire it as I write this, but I would guess that it would be the next thing that happens to it.

I've clicked on buy it now to test those listings and import charges were not added.

One thing that i have noticed lately is that although there was always a one shipping price for a gsp listing in search view and a higher shipping price when clicking on a listing, the difference between the two seems to be higher than before?  For example, one item I looked at shows a shipping cost of $8.73 when I look at it in search but when I click on the listing the cost changes to $15.39. That's a huge difference and would certainly put me off as a buyer.

Hi pjcdn,

This is an issue that the GSP team is working on. There should be a fix coming shortly.
