Pay attention to your neutrals as they will and can get you a SNPC restriction -> ebay looks at a 90day timeframe and your neutrals are now counting for .667 versus a negative that is scored at 1.

Actually, it's 30 days not 90 days that they look at for that. At least that's what I got told during a call to eBay.

Ya its 30 NOT 90 . You get 5 neutrals in 100 you get your self a nice seller restriction i got a 75% one right now (thankfully id have to sell 75 k to reach it)

Had 2 buyers leave me quick feedback without contacting me they contacted ebay 2 times and asked for feedback withdrawl saying they made a mistake and both times got rejected (although my selling manager said that they can remove them in this case if the buyer askes for the removal)

This system is b.s has me scared to buy in more product gotta wait till july till its lifted .

Actually they do look at your 90day feedbacks (negs + neutrals) when determining your buyer satisfaction level and like Centralmetalcorp said if it goes beyond 5% then your hit with a SELLER NON-PERFORMANCE and your account is restricted for minimum 45days (30days minimum waiting time plus 7-10days review waiting time).

My Terms of sale are simple... easy to read.

Payment is expected within 14 days... mainly because of MO delivery time..

I wait that 14 days before I file UID...

Do send invoice periodically....

Even with Paypal some buyers need that 14 days.

I wait... because I definitely look forward to completing the sale.

I file my fair share of UID... but then they are no-hassle UID... Many buyers do pay, after UID filed and even then I treat the transaction as if the UID was never filed.

I don't think I'd mind any of the new policies so much if they hadn't made it a 5% "dissatisfied" cutoff. 7-9% would be acceptable.

"Dissatisfied" to them means "filed a paypal dispute". Well, if I resolve the issue surrounding the dispute and they withdraw it or it closes automatically, it still counts as a "dissatisfied buyer" even if I then work to satisfy them and succeed in doing so.

"Dissatisfied" also means a 1 or 2 in any of the DSR categories. So I can ship them the item the same day they pay, lose money on shipping, but US customs holds the item at random or whatever, I get positive FB, 5, 5, 2, 5... my "buyer satisfaction" score goes down a point anyways. Nothing I can do.

In some fields like selling kids clothes or 99 cent trinkets or used records, buyers are more polite. In my field, used computer equipment, buyers are more demanding, rude and problematic because not all of them even know how to turn their computer on, much less install parts into it. I know almost nobody selling used computer parts who's above 98% anymore unless they're a gigantic company with a huge staff.

Sooooo today I get another negative from some moron who bid a computer part up, won it, then decided he'd bid too high on it. I file an unpaid dispute, he says he refuses to pay because he "can't find the support website for the item", I shrug and file for FVF credit after a few more days, he leaves me a negative. eBay's new policy changes for 2008 are the single worst thing they have ever done, it's almost as though they're attempting to run themselves out of business or lower their stock values on purpose. Again, fine, but they're screwing a lot of hard working people who've been making their living using eBay as a marketplace in the process.

We are starting to see a lot of the following:

Dear tea_past_times,

We have not left feedback on this item yet. My wife found a chip under the outside edge of the saucer. A small portion of the edge was painted over, but the small chip is visible underneath. You probably missed it. The cup is beautiful otherwise. Thanks, RXXXXX CXXXXX

In 4 years on Ebay we got an email like that once or twice a year, now it is once or twice a week.

I respond like this:

Dear rXXXXXXXX,

You are welcome to return it, when it has arrived back to us, safely, we will credit your paypal account a full refund. Have a nice day. - PHIL

So far nobody has actually returned an item though. I think people are hoping for discounts or refunds, even though none is REALLY deserved. It does not hurt to try I guess, is their rationale. I wonder how many sellers afraid of negative feedback are actually giving money back right away.

People are still paying us, however the games start shortly after. The new feedback system is a joke, which leaves sellers open to extortion, and won't work long term.

Classic passive-aggressive tactic. They make sure you know they haven't left you feedback yet, trying to get you to offer them something out of fear that they might leave you a neutral or negative comment, or they might issue you a 1 or 2 DSR which you'll never see.

The entire DSR system is a complete joke and waste of time. Nobody looks at them and the DSR requirements for keeping PS status are way too high. Rewards for really high DSRs are fine and all, but even getting a "3" rating once in a while can murder your overall score.

All a buyer has to do is give you a "1" on any DSR and poof, there goes your 15% discount. That can cost you hundreds of dollars and a buyer can do it with a smile on their face while issuing you a positive comment. This insanity has to end.

cajunfox- I agree that the new DSR system is a joke, and far too heavily dependent on "5"s across the board.
A THREE should not be that much impact as it does now. And the odd 1 or 2 should not be the 'kiss of death'.

What I have a hard time wrapping my head around is why there is so much time being wasted debating a badly flawed system for rating?

Why not just ignore it! Factor in the fact that you will never see a discount, and use the REAL costs for listings, and FVF's as your benchmarks.
If you do get a discount great- but as a seller don't obsess over trying to get that discount- you'll drive yourself crazy. What is the real difference between 0% 5% and 15%- in hard DOLLARS? If it doesn't buy you lunch at a decent recent- why are you worrying? If it means the difference between a week OR spending TWO in Florida- then maybe I'd be more concerned. But, what is the real impact on your well being for those few dollars?

The DSR system has never been well explained. It is even less understood.
Whether it changes soon, or in the distant future, it will change. Again, not everyone will be pleased, and people will again waste endless hours debating it.

So to stay sane- simply deliver quality items, in a timely manner, and hope for the best.
Remebering that there will always be the customer from hell lurking out there in the shadows. And a negative, or two, may arise.
Happiness is knowing how to accept those things- and get on with our life.

I have done some listings today to try out a new way of describing my items. Should head off the scammers for my product:

Condition: Good, no chips, no cracks. Paint is excellent. Gold trim is excellent. The bottom underside of the handle has a few extremely small lines in the glaze, that we commonly call crazing. The bottom underside of the saucer has a small amount of this too. There is one small bubble in the glaze on the up side of the saucer. These things occurred when the items were made, and will not matter or be noticed by 99 out of 100 people. You would almost need a microscope to observe this, but we pride ourselves on accurate descriptions, so if microscopic details concern you, you should consider our description before you bid on this item. Otherwise it is a fantastic, colourful, beautiful Royal Albert cup and saucer that anyone would be happy to add to their collection!!

Previously I would have put Very Good Condition, maker's faults in glaze.

Hopefully the buyer won't be passive-aggresively emailing in a weeks time eh??

3 buyers using "Buy it Now" in the last 2 weeks, deciding they didn't want the item anymore. If we can't leave feedback to reflect the transaction that at least allow us to put stricter limitations on buyers. I would like 10+ positive feedback, or something similar. Most of my items are buy it now so I don't have the chance to remove bids. My banned list is getting larger by the day.

The thing I really hate is tip toeing around the nub non-paying buyers so they don't neg ya. Most of the time they don't understand the process of us getting our fee's back. Some see this as hostile and react as such. There is no accountability anymore, no contracts, all wishywashy. Fix it please.

Buyers not paying for items

Some see this as hostile and react as such.

I have done this several times, just emailed buyer that if they do not want the item, he just needs to confirm we agreed not to complete and there would be no unpaid item strike against them. Nobody got hostile so far and I have not banned any buyer for changing their mind. In fact, some of the buyers that originally changed their mind have become repeat customers later on.

But I have banned people that had bad communication, or some individuals that have been discussed on these boards.

In my opinion buyers have right to change their mind. Apparently in UK is mandatory for online sellers to let buyers change their mind within 7 days. IMO it does not make sense to force people buy something if there was almost no cost associated with dispatching the goods to them yet. And if they change their mind after shipment and return the goods in restockable condition, to refund in full less S/H.

I had a customer, who returned items to me, and when we talked over the phone, I specifically told him the items need to be in restockable condition. He returned one item with open retail packaging and I told him I could not refund it. He said "it's only plastic packaging" ... well, some people do not understand that retail packaging makes difference between night and day. Anyway, it was a $10 item, so instead of arguing with him, I gave him his money back. Did not blacklist him, but thought about it 😉

Normally I just give them back their money, and I don't file NPB etc, usually it isn't worth the time it takes and as mentioned by others sometimes they come back because they see that they were treated well. I figure dealing with pain in the bum people/situations sometimes is part of the job.
