Canadian Power Seller Alliances and Selling Locations

I have been doing this for while now and I have run across this area in ebay again. I am looking to find out where many of the Canadian Power Sellers are located in Canada to forge alliances and share information. The ebay forum is a good one for general discussion but still does not provide one-on-one conversations live with a real person who has experienced many of the pratfalls of being a Canadian seller. The forum is a good one, but is a service where information cannot be conveyed in two of three sentences in an message post. I spend many hours doing business on ebay and feel that the email system of communicating is very impersonal and delayed when trying to get answers. I am an honest business person and I am looking for serious people who can communicate and who would like to expand their ebay businesses like myself or take advantage of free insight as well as give some. We have combined knowledge as ebay users and have seen many different situations when buying and selling. I have made contact by chance with other power sellers near my locations and we have incorporated our combined knowledge into our day to day operations. This is why I am now posting this message in the forum to locate others. I am not a new user and I think it is time that we had some one-on-one conversations with each other to take advantage of our shared experiences and personal knowledge. I have a couple of years experience and looking at expanding my knowledge and sharing ideas. This is not a spoof or spam message. I am not soliciting or selling anything so please do not misinterpret this message. I am looking for others with the same goals who are serious. I see this as a benefit to many, since as Canadians and we are likely to encounter similar situations associated with being Canadian sellers. I see our goals as the same in all of the messages posted to grow and expand our common knowledge.
Thanks in advance.

what about a virtual meeting place... I saw something on CNN where a US Senator (or some political figure) set up a virtual meeting room on Second Life and then invited people to attend his meeting.

I am all for the concept of pooling our resources, but the last time I booked a hotel room it was a lot more expensive than $50.00 and there was the travelling expenses and eating costs. We are looking for ways to save money, not spend the hard earned money we make from selling on eBay in one weekend.

I would prefer to do this online in some fashion, with our without webcams, no matter. One of the reasons for their being an internet is for online communication to cut down or eliminate the need to be travelling across the country to have a meeting.

Let face it, not everyone will be able to attend plus I am sure there will be a few noshows. Therefore, we can post the results of the meeting here to share with everyone else.

For those suggesting a Virtual Meeting instead, these type of meeting is vey unproductive - I have particapted in many online meetings and they tend to drag on for hours - the purpose of this meeting is to have an open forum where ideas and sggestions can flow easily rather than trying hear someone over the internet.

Face to face is much better and more personal.

3 hour drive to Kitchener, meeting time, 3 hour drive back.. I have 6 plus hours available for an online meeting. That would be more productive 6 plus hours than sitting in my car alone.

We dont have to have a voice conference, we can type.

LAPLAYA, your suggestion is no different than what we are already doing on here.

One of the main purposes was for a formal face to face meeting -- get away from the office, mingel with others, and put a face to a userid.

Your missing the whole point of the get together.

sounds like a social gathering. Who's bringing the munchies ?

I think we can accomplish what we need to do just fine online. We could have had a lot of ideas on the table, instead we have 64 messages and we haven't learnt much more than what we already know or are already doing.

Hi

I am just putting together a agenda for the meeting that will cover a variety of subjects.

This is to be a structured meeting and I do not want to waste my time or others when attending.

I would like to post it in this forum but will not for obvious reasons.

Please keep in mind that some will be serious others will not be.

I will email the agenda directly to power sellers members who are interested in attending the meeting.

The agenda will be formulated to allow direct communication for all parties involved and will be on hotspots concerning shipping, ebay, and paypal.

The meeting is to be a constructive one so if you plan on attending it to make it a complaint session then this is not the meeting for you.

This is not an ebay sponsored event and all participating is for personal or professional reasons.

This meeting is designed to allow networking and provide a power seller community support group.

This meeting is not being setup to exclude anyone who shows interest.

According to the reply's in here I see that date for the meeting as Saturday January 20, 07 and time and the location will be decided in the next day or two.

A mutual location will be decided that is reasonable for the majority not just a few members.

I will also be doing further inquiries into suppliers of packaging materials in various locations.

I can make a modest estimate for packaging materials and will try and come up with some solutions.

As all can see I am trying to be professional about this meeting and would like to get the first one under our collective belts.

As far as video conferencing for this meeting it is not a practical way to meet anyone and additional hardware and software will be required.

The minutes of the meeting will be sent directly to all attending members.

I hope this has answered everyone's questions.

Please email me directly and I will forward an agenda when it has been completed in the next day or two.

Al

HI Fitz.. I tried emailing you at the email you have listed at the end of your post, however it bounced back, so I sent you a message through the email seller link on one of your auction listings.

LAPLAYA...sounds like the drive is an issue with you and also sounds like your more into an online session rather than take the time to meet people face-to-face.

Therefore rather than spending more of your valuable time in pushing for a virtual meeting then you should work at putting one together.

What we are looking to establish is a group of people doing business on eBaY that meeting once awhile to share ideas, suggestions and pool resources to help each other out.

We are looking to meet others like ourselves that are seriuos about their eBaY business enough to take the time to meet in person rather than through an informal forum such as the one here.

An off-eBaY site will enable everyone to communicate openly and freely without BIG BROTHER watching.

Pooling resources? Where did you get that idea from? Sharing ideas is one thing but sharing money? I'm not doing that. Sorry. That's a very bad idea in my opinion.

The drive is an issue for me and probably most others outside of the GTA. There are many online venues beyond eBay for discussions. Yahoo comes to mind, MSN comes to mind.
FutureTeck it sounds to me like you want to exclude anyone who can't attend a real face to face meeting. I have lots of ideas and solutions that I use to make my selling on eBay more profitable, but I am not driving 150 miles in a blinding snow storm on a weekend to share them when I can just attend an online meeting in the comfort of my home and have the same conversation (either spoken or typing) Not everyone likes to or is able to travel, but one thing we all have in common is a computer and an internet connection.

Bill, you certainly make it sound that you want it your way or no way. I have not seen where anyone is trying to exclude you. It makes no sense for the majority to drive to Barrie or for the majority to have a web conference when (so far) you are the only one to express interest in it. I also have no interest in a web conference or chat room or discussion board for the purpose discussed. Does that mean that I'm also trying to exclude you?

IMHO you are making every effort thus far to exclude yourself.

The drive is an issue for me and probably most others outside of the GTA.

I am located outside the GTA and would be prepared to drive within an hour so please don't speak for me. Most others are outside the GTA and have already expressed a willingness to travel so I'm really not sure who (beyond yourself) you are speaking on behalf of.

Frankly, you can decide for yourself to attend or not, but I, for one, am not interested if individuals call the shots despite the expressed interests of the majority. Either the majority rules or count me out.

Wow... If I can't express my opinion here are you even going to listen to what I have to say anyways. I understand that the meeting is not going to take place in Barrie, we were asked to make a location suggestion. That was my suggestion, I was prepared to drive 50 miles south if others were prepared to drive 50 miles north, but no... someone came up with the idea of Kitchener, so I said that was too far for me. I can't travel that far. So I suggested online meeting, but no one wants that either. I have somehow gotten the distinct impression that if you don't show up at this meeting that your not going to be a part of this group, so yes I am trying to get the location moved closer or promote an online discussion because I don't want to be excluded.
The OP asked for our input, I am just making sure that my voice is heard and not drowned out by others.

Bill, you're absolutely welcome to express your opinion. Heck, we all are. But it is coming across as aggressive. My way or the highway kind of thing. Some people want to do face to face and you're pushing for not because you can't/won't drive a certain distance.

In a way it reminds me of eBay Live. Number one they don't do conferencing. They relay some notes afterwards and only recently for specific classes have they recorded them. But not every location is going to be convenient for everyone to get to. eBay picks the location and people decide if they want to go there or not.

Forgive me for being so blunt but 50 miles from your location isn't much of a compromise. Even if everybody went 50 miles from their location we'd still not be that much close together. Suggestions are great to get ideas tossed around but they don't all have to be accepted.

Barrie doesn't seem very popular. Next suggestion? And who says you'd be excluded? Who says it'll even actually happen despite people showing interest? Who says there won't be another? Who says if there is that it will be in the same location?

Smile. Take a deep breath. No need to get offended. We're just talking. Not all ideas are going to be accepted by all. :)

Not exactly accurate.

It's fine to make your opinion heard but you have suggested that others are trying to exclude you because they don't accept your ideas and that was far from the case. I don't know where you got this impression that if you don't show up at this meeting that your not going to be a part of this group but I have reread the thread and can find no such suggestion.

Others from Windsor, Goderich and London have suggested that they are prepared to dive farther than you. Check the thread again and you will see that only three from the GTA have expressed interest - certainly not the majority by far.

You made your suggestion of Barrie and no one wanted to make that drive. You made your suggestion of a web conference and no one wanted to take part. You made your suggestion of a chat room or discussion board and no one has expressed interest in those either.

Your concerns about a "blinding snowstorm" could be valid or it could also be a pleasant near spring day like today. I can assure you that I far more fear snowstorms near Chatham and Woodstock than I do near Barrie.

If you chose not to attend it is your choice and not the effort of someone to exclude you. Stop blaming others for their unwillingness to allow you to determine an initial meeting format or location.

This whole thing was a nice thought but maybe a new thread should be started titled Ontario Power seller Meeting. There was interest shown by others out west but it seems that the ON. sellers seemed to band together and decided to make a meeting in Ontario thus excluding the rest of Canada. The fact that the sellers in ON. can't decide on a mutual meeting place says that this idea although a nice thought can not work. If we want Canadian Power sellers to be united you have to remember that Canada has sellers from the east to west coast.
I think the only way we can have a true exchange of ideas is by doing this online. This can at least include Everyone who wants to participate.
Reading the last few posts I can see that there's already decention starting between a few of you.
The beauty of selling online is the vast amounts of people that can be reached. Having an idea exchange online will reach the same vast amounts of sellers.
I for one think that this board can work but if someone else has the ability and know how to set something up off of ebay then as long as it can include everyone who wants to participate then I'm all for it. Really are the issue we want to talk about that bad that we have to worry about "Big Brother" listening in?
