Do YOU forfeit giving a neg feedback so you do not get one?

I am wondering if YOU just foget about giving a NON PAYING bidder a negative feedback, just because you KNOW you will get one in return. I am trying to decide on this right now. I had a butt head not pay for a 350.00 item and treated me very rudely on top of it all. I would really like to leave neg. feedback, but...I know I am going to have to pay for it too, as I likely get one from him too. How many of you other Canadian Powersellers forfeit neg's in order to protect your feedback?
Thanks!

You are at 99.3%, getting another negative would only drop you to 99.2%. If you truely don't like him and also want to warn other ebayers, why not go ahead.

Well, ya have to ask yourself who is it going to hurt more in the long run?

Does this person sell under this id? Let's face it, when was the last time you reviewed the FB of a bidder who wasn't giving you a problem? Do most seller's have the time to review the FB of bidders? A neg is much more likely to do harm to you than them.

IMHO, giving NPB negs and thereby inviting them upon yourself is counter-productive to your business in most cases. If the bidder has a pattern of not paying then they will be NARU on their third NPB report anyway, regardless of their FB. Your best revenge upon a goof like this is to file a NPB and cause a strike against them.

The whole point of the feedback system is to improve the eBay experience for both buyers and sellers. Not rating this bad apple is sending the wrong message to the guy since he will assume he can keep getting away with his behaviour.

I don't beleive the neg he will leave would really hurt you. First, your rating is over 99%, with no negatives in the past year, and second, the message he will leave will probably be as rude as what he has shown you before, so anyone reading it will understand the guy is a jackass. You always have the opportunity to reply to his comment.

I have had this dilemma in the past, and I now choose to use the system as it is meant to be used, and i believe this is beneficial to the community.

Brenda:

Did this buyer respond to your Unpaid Item Dispute? If not, if they leave you a neg it will be automatically removed by eBay, leaving the comment but removing the score.

Cheers,
Ernie.

Senior Marketplace Policy Manger Brian Burke

Hi... I'm Brian Burke, Senior Marketplace Policy Manager for Feedback.

Last month we launched a change to the feedback system that requires members who have 10 or less feedback to complete a brief tutorial before leaving their first neutral or negative feedback At that time, I also announced that this month we will begin removing feedback ratings left by buyers who don't respond to the Unpaid Item claim process on eBay. This change is now live.

Beginning today, we will automatically remove feedback ratings left by buyers who do not respond to the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This means the rating (whether positive, neutral or negative) will no longer affect the recipient's feedback score, although the feedback comment itself will remain. An administrative note from eBay will be added to the comment, indicating that the feedback rating was removed because the member did not participate in the Unpaid Item process on eBay. This is a global change and will affect all eBay sites.

The new policy only applies to unpaid item claims filed on or after Monday, December 5th (except for those that were filed on or after December 5th and were closed before the change was fully implemented on December 8th). Eligibility is based on the Unpaid Item filing date, not when the feedback was left.

This change, as well as the other recent enhancements we've made, ensures that the feedback system continues to be a credible measure of trust. To comment on any of the recent changes, please visit the Feedback discussion board and always remember to read the Announcement Board for any future changes we may make to the feedback system.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Senior Manager, Marketplace Policy

Unfortunately its not only new users who are difficult. In the last 2 weeks I listed over 200 auctions of coins for an estate through ebay's Trading Assistant program. Because I don't know a lot about coins I offered a full refund including shipping costs if items were not listed accurately. One buyer blasted me and accused me of all kinds of things because apparently 2 of the 4 coins were British and not Canadian like the ad said. I immediately issued a 50% refund and told him to keep the coins, and so far I haven't heard from him again, but why don't people actually read the full ad? If he did he would have realized that I offered a full refund. I guess some folks just need to vent, which is what I'm doing right now lol

Common for US eBayers......." shipping to US = $3.00, shipping to Canada = $15.00" lol do you ever get the feeling that they really prefer NOT to ship to Canada?

its unfortunate how ebay's feedback system works, a non paying bidder should not be able to leave feedback in my opinion, it is likely that you will receive a negative in retaliation, so yes, i have not left negative feedback due to the fact that i may in return receive on...check his feedback's left for others, if he shows to leave negatives in return and nasty ones, i would just ignore leaving him feedback

Eventually, when eBay makes PayPal the only payment method accepted, they will probably be able to make it that way...

In the mantime, they cannot monitor if the Seller's claim is legit.
