We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of messages this seller receives, they are unable to respond to your specific question right now. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing.

Have you guys seen the above when trying to ask a seller a question?  Am I being punked?  Who thought this was a good idea?  You never know what someone may need to know about a product so why put this restriction in place?

I'm ready to purchase an item and it says leather, but I want to be absoultely sure that it's REAL leather and not PU.  This option will only cause more returns and issues.

No. Never.

It sounds odd, but it also sounds like there's nothing you can do about it other than buy from someone else.

How many items does the seller have listed?

This should work................... your email might not be welcome but it should get you there......

Go to advanced search and punch in the seller's id.

You have to make sure that you dont ask about a specific item once you have the chance to post.

That is.......... male it a general question but include your tiem # in the post.

BUT......... even if it gets you through to the seller you probably won't get a response.

Good Luck.

"A lot of items listed"?

100? 1000? 50,000?

The wording is boilerplate from eBay. If a seller has fewer than 1000 unique items listed, and uses this he is just being lazy. A transaction is unlikely to go well. Check his feedback and Detailed Seller Ratings for confirmation.

If there are 50,000 items listed (or some other large number) then you are dealing with a company that does not have any designated customer service staff. Again unlikely to go well if there is a problem.

No you're not being punked.

Ebay allows sellers to set up that option if the seller doesn't want to answer potential buyers questions. It amazes me when I see that. As a buyer, it tells me that they don't want to answer my questions so obviously they don't want my business either.

While many sellers do not take messages, I have never seen that particular justification for not taking messages before.

This equals customer loses sale.

Have never seen this previously also.

I would think a returned message could result in a sale.

Wonder how many potential sales they are losing.

Oh well, their loss.

There is a chance that the message is not seller generated and the seller may not even be aware of it.

That is.......... Maybe that seller did have an extremely high volume of questions and exceeded some eBay limit we don't know about.

Years ago I was blocked from asking sellers questions every day because I'd exceeded my limit.

Maybe these limits still exist but they're so high now that few of us ever approach them.

Just a thought.

I guess that could be true, hopefully it is.

If not, that could potentially be Online Selling Suicide.

While some potential buyers ask a lot of questions, answer is always in the description, i always return the message.

Five messages from one potential buyer in the last couple of days ended up being three sales.

As I'm mentioned, many sellers will not take messages. I think that it is extremely poor customer service and I was surprised when ebay set up a system so that sellers could do that.

Here is the message from Toys R Us

We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing.

Yes, PJ........ we know that.

That is the standard message sent and supplied by eBay when a seller will not take messages.

That's very common.

This one is different and not one seen before.

Either the seller spliced a response in .............. is that possible??............. or the seller's mailbox was in fact full.

That answer - created by eBay - has been around since 2012.  Nothing new.

First, does it matter what the wording of the message is......either way it means that the seller does not want your question.

We know that?? Who is we?

Read the OP again. Sounds to me like they had no idea that some sellers do not accept messages. I was showing them a similar message that comes up.

Is BB part of your 'we'? He said...

Oh well, their loss.

Perhaps he knew of your 'common' message but his comment above gives me the impression that he had never seen that message or any similar message from a seller. He wasn't commenting on the wording, he was commenting on the fact that a seller not accepting messages could lose sales.

Regardless if I misunderstood what BB or the OP meant, please speak for yourself, not others.

As far as this one being different and not seen being before...As I already said, I did see it before.

It was a while ago so perhaps when ebay first set this up, that was the message that came up. Perhaps the message as changed so nyone who set it up later on shows the new one. I really don't know and I don't think it matters.

Was hard for me to comment on the subject as i had never seen this previously.

Pierre helped with sharing the link.

Comment was just in regard to the potential loss of sales.

Still got a kick out of eBay began allowing sellers to change their settings to block shoppers from asking questions a few years ago in response to higher-volume sellers who did not want to get bogged down corresponding with eBay shoppers.

Wow, don't want to get bogged down with answering questions regarding potential sales.

Wonder what the CEOs of these companies are thinking.
