I was just wondering why ebay is letting the sellers list rediculous shipping costs? In my opinion they should pay a listing fee for the items that don't sell. This site went from a place to get good deals to a site that lets the sellers try to rip off their customers with these stupid shipping charges.

Hi there,
Please don't lump us all together.
Thanks

There is no simple answer to a complex issue. Yes, shipping is expensive, just view carrier costs.
Ebay has disincentivised the use of shipping as a profit center by now charging fees on the total sale and providing incentives for free shipping. Performance standards penalize sellers receiving poor feedback via DSRs etc.
Sellers must decide on their comfort level respecting fraud. On line delivery confirmation equals higher cost.
Total cost not competitive , buyer moves on.

As with all things...it makes more sense if you walk a mile, so to speak. Shipping cost are expensive for ebay buyers, because, in short...shipping costs are expensive for ebay sellers to purchase. And the rates just went up a week ago. For Canadian sellers expecially, shipping costs are likely the most challenging area of ebay to deal with.

What I do not understand is that I calculate the size and weight of the item in each listing, and then ebay calculates the shipping cost and it is always ridiculous. I have started putting a note on my listings for the buyer to contact me for the exact shipping cost to their particular location. I just wonder if some people do not notice the note and are turned off by the high shipping calculated by ebay.

cushions1, are you inputing the sizes and weight in metric? Always use metric, not imperial measurements otherwise the ebay/Canada Post site will round up your measurements and they may not be correct.

I was looking for a plastic clip for the Living Air xl15 air purifier. It's just a tiny plastic clip that the seller was selling for $4.95. Hey, I thought, what a great deal. I checked his shipping rate. It was unbelievable. For this thin, tiny piece of plastic, the shipping was a whopping $20.95. For that price, it better be on my door step the next day. But it's not the fast service mail, it's just priority post which is between 5 to 10 days.

Don't blame the sellers, but greedy eBay and the paranoia engendered by a few bad outcomes, that have made extremely expensive shipping mandatory in ebay's eyes between our countries.
As purchasing from the US has become a real aggravation because of the outrageous shipping, tax, brokerage and other fees, I now purchase mostly from Chinese sellers who offer free shipping and from local sellers where I can pick the items up at no cost. It's just not worth it otherwise, unless it's for an item I just can't get any other way.

Instead of complaining on this forum regarding ridiculous shipping charges, you should contact these greedy sellers and tell them what you think of their unfair and greedy practices. I just looked at a 6 inch bottle opener for $$3.95 from Seller signsfromthepastforless ( eBay item number: 182187987110). The shipping charge for the item is listed at a whopping $34.25 U.S. I contacted the seller and expressed what I thought of his practices. This is what we need to start doing. Our way of protesting greedy sellers.
