Hello Canadian sellers,
This thread is open for discussion regarding the recent announcement about eBay Canada retiring USD support from its selling flows. Myself and other employees will come visit this thread and do our best to answer any questions on this topic.

Hi June. I too am a pretty 'small potatoes' seller, ha ha. No phone call for me either. And I also don't have any freebies left this month.
However, it's my understanding that on July 1st, you could list your new items on .com OR .ca (not both I presume). So I am going to try listing my next batch/collection of things on .ca FIRST and see what happens. Sounds like it's a lot easier re you can't use ship calculator on US site and have to enter 'flat rate' shipping amount, etc.
If I find a drop in lookers/watchers/bidders... then I will give up on .ca and then just re-list (might have to re-do from scratch, not sure/haven't tried it yet) whatever it is on .com. The whole migration tool sounded like a real schmozzle and lots of sellers (maybe just BIG ones?) had a lot of trouble with it, so I didn't even bother with that!
Good luck with it all! Best regards, Alison 🙂

"could list your new items on .com OR .ca (not both I presume). "
You - and all eBay sellers worldwide - can sell on both. You can sell on all twenty eBay international sites if you wish. Many Canadians sell regularly on eBay.uk if they have items of specific interest to British buyers. Many sell on eBay.au when they have items of specific interest to Australian buyers.
The point of the new policy is that all sellers - regardless of their country of residence - can sell on any eBay site in the currency of that country.
When you list on eBay.com (USA) you are expected to list in US$. If you list on eBay.uk, you are expected to list in Sterling. If you list on eBay.au you are expected to list in Australian dollars....
... if you list on eBay.ca you are now expected to list in Canadian dollars.
Many sellers (myself included) have been listing on BOTH eBay.ca (in Cdn$) and eBay.com (US$) for years. You decide what is best for you.

There is no need for that.
If you list on eBay.ca (for example) and show shipping methods and shipping charge to BOTH Canada and the USA, then your listing will appear on BOTH eBay.ca and eBay.com
Similarly, if you list on eBay.com (for example) and show shipping methods and shipping charge to BOTH Canada and the USA, then your listing will appear on BOTH eBay.ca and eBay.com
The listing on eBay.ca must be in Cdn$ while the listing on eBay.com must be in US$
Having two listings for the same item is not allowed (duplication rules) if available at fixed price in the same market.

Hi, and thank you for listening,
At one point about 2 years ago I had appx. 1000 listings and those were the days when everything was good!
Then the "slow down" came.
I started getting messages from potential buyers who told me when they tried to buy a message came up saying "item no longer available ~ gone to auction". I telephoned ebay and the buyer was right ~ that was chalked up to a 'technical issue'.
Then came the 'add to cart' that didn't work and not only did sales slow down, I started receiving messages from potential buyers who said they were being forced to pay each item individually even though I Clearly Specify combined shipping.
More calls to ebay ~ another "technical problem" but was never fixed.
Last year, my pages were automatically reverting to cad and I was told "you have to sell in currency of the country you're in" but at that time, I was able to switch the currency choice back to usd.
Then we started getting the Big Announcements that "it would be more beneficial for the sellers.........." (yeah, right!) not that I believe that and you know the rest.
I too have taken advantage of the free cad listings ~ nada! I don't know what ebay has done to us but I would be willing to switch to .com, give it a try, and switch back if need be. I have many, many pattern books & charts to list, but my heart's just not in it right now.
As I mentioned, I am Totally Discouraged!!
I do have a membership with Etsy, tried it a few years ago but it was slow selling so I put it on hold. I may try it again as they are expanding and Definitely Not as Demanding as ebay!!
So that's enough venting for now, thanks again for listening and replying ~ I'm still waiting for my phone call from Utah.
The only time I had communication with Utah was in 2007 shortly after I joined ebay and was promptly given the boot for an Unknown Reason and had to send a lot of personal information to an address in Utah so that I could be re-instated with ebay!
Almost forgot my question ~ "if I migrate to .com and find it isn't any better, will I be able to 'migrate' back to .ca?"

Small potato, that's me!!
Just looking for a little hobby

While I'm waiting to make my decision, here's a question for you:~
When I log into ebay.com and try to re-list OR make a new listing, why does ebay make me sign in to ebay.ca?
I've tried experimenting with listing in .com and the "system" always makes me sign in again under .ca?
Just curious.........

Are you relisting an item already listed on eBay.com?
I looked at some of your recently ended (unsold) listings and they were listed on eBay.ca in US$.

"Just looking for a little hobby '
eBay is not a hobby... it is a business. Small business for many but... a business nevertheless where sellers need to account for their sales and declare their profits on their tax return.
The days of "hobby" are long gone.

And how will it impact our views on the ebay.ca website? Do ebay.ca or cdn dollar listing get preference in Canada?
Most of my customers are in the USA so I'm trying to determine the best approach. I didn't find your tool that useful on the other page.It won't impact your placement on either site, as long as you have specified shipping for both countries.
Thanks for the feedback on the decision tool. However, if I may make a recommendations, real life tests are usually much more accurate than any tool could be. Why not list a few items on both sites and see which fare better?
Actually it does because of the higher $ it shows lower in search when a shopper is searching with lowest price first

May I suggest you check again. On both eBay.ca and eBay.com.
If selecting to view search result pages by highest or lowest values, the search engine automatically converts into the currency of the site you are viewing.
So whether you list an item at US$78.00 or Cdn$100.00 the listing will be shown at the same place in the search result page.

Not to worry ~ I keep good records.
Don't even claim all of my expenses
06-17-2016 10:01 PM
No, actually that's my question
How do I list on .com when the "system" reverts me back over to .ca?
06-17-2016 10:05 PM
It reverts to .ca because you are using a listing that was on .ca to start the operation.
To list on .com, log on to .com and start listing from scratch (using SELL link on top of the page), not using a link from a .ca listing

my issue with converting to Cdn is -I'm now dealing with older listings from 2011 and earlier, where we had different photo dimensions, didn't have to put in shipping charges and could use stock photos. Since then my stock photos have dropped off and I have to rephotograph a lot of items. I have to reweigh a lot of items due to Canada Post also change weight categories for the 200-300 grams bracket and have to resize the rest of the photos. I was able to knock off 25 revisions in 30 minutes, now it's taking me twice that time so a lot slower going but at least I won't have to worry about all those old photo issues anymore.

Here's what I found on the thread:
Moving to a single listing currency will:
These aren't "real" reasons; rather, it's as if a politician is talking.
Darn, I'm mad.

As it is, the majority of us sellers did not buy these arguments either. Since we cannot change this decision, we'll have to decide what our path forward is going to be and what serves us best. That is what I have done by moving all my listings, one by one over to .com. Maybe that was the intent by Ebay all along, I don't know. However, since my client base is the USA, this seemed to be the best way to go. All the best!

Its a **bleep** move by those people who has nothing to do but to screwed up everything. I am global seller coz Canadian buyers are cheap. For almost 12 years, I believed only three buyer from Canada bought from me. Most of my buyers are from USA. Now! THOSE STUPID PEOPLE FROM EBAY.CA SCREWED IT UP once again.

"THOSE STUPID PEOPLE FROM EBAY.CA SCREWED IT UP once again. "
You do know that the change of policy making eBay-Canada a single currency site does not change your ability as a seller from listing in US$ on eBay.com if you want to list/sell in US$
