So many times have I seen an article at a decent price . But the shipping is extremely inflated. 2 and 3 times what it should be. To me sellers like these should be banned.

The ebay Calculator & Canada Post haven't as yet 'got it together'!! For shipping within Canada sellers have to set the calculator at a higher level and then Refund the overcharge. This is due to the fact that ebay does Not add a Final value fee to the shipping charge when using the Ebay Calculator.
Add to that fact, that Very Few buyers actually check the shipping label for Date of shipping OR Cost of shipping Before they short the seller on the DSR ratings.
As a buyer I check the shipping Before I make a purchase ~ if I over pay on shipping it's My fault!

It has nothing to do with ebay and CP not "getting it together" It is against ebay policy to include paypal or ebay fees within your shipping costs although I'm sure that many sellers do include it.
http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/selling-practices.html#postage
What you're not allowed to charge
Related fees: Things like gas, mileage, time spent at a carrier, employee wages, or eBay and PayPal fees shouldn't be added.
I don't understand why you would have to set the shipping calculator at a higher rate within Canada. When I use calculated shipping within Canada, I have a discount built in. I use expedited shipping and then print the label on Paypal. so that I receive an approx 20% off of the regular parcel counter rate.

eBay know exactly what is happening with shipping and now with this new global shipping they have contracted with Pitney Bowes to charge an extra import tax. This is not being charges because of any government tolls. It seems that USPS and Canada Post were not charging us enough. They are alienating a huge market by adding, in some cases, up to 20% extra on already high shipping costs.

If you are shiping within Cahada why are you not using 'Ship-in-a-Click' on the Canada Post website. They offer better rates than eBay .

Look at the asking price .99 shipping over 20.00. When ebay fvf's wer on item only people scammed ebay by over inflating shipping to cover the cost of item. I think some sellers still think this is in effect.
If I am interested in something I contact the seller to varify mailing fees. More often than not they made a mistake when listing. The auto shipping fees can get a little quirqy especaillynif there is a type on the we the weight

for all you people 1 starring these 'crooked' sellers by 'overcharging' for shipping. Good on ya! Pretty soon it will be bestbuy and other large retailers selling and the small guy squeezed out.
It's punitive and petty to put 1 star for shipping cost. Ebay set it up that way because they set up DSR's BEFORE they started charging FVF for shipping. This was meant to discourage the high shipping charge (and as a consequence ebay fee avoidance).
Yes, ebay is playing on the emotions of buyers to help them make more money.
FACT: you bought the item and were happy with the price, including all shipping and taxes, etc. ( we must assume this because you bought it).
So why get yer ginch in a knot when you find out, oh no! shipping was $4, not the $10 they charged!.
Did you get a deal or not? Were you happy or not?
Here's another thing you should be upset about.
You buy an item for $50 TOTAL that normally sells for $100. You think 'hey! great deal' but then when you receive the item, you find out the seller paid $6 for the item.
Are you going to be mad at that too?
Should sellers include all their costs and then allow the buyer to put in what they think is the appropriate mark up?
Fer crying out loud, I can tell you this....
If you sell on ebay, yer not raking in the cash.
If you were happy with the price when you bought it, be happy with it after. You agreed to it.
If you have some specific issue, email the seller and work it out instead of 1 starring or negative feedback.

yes, there are times when we have to refund the difference too. If a buyer brings the excess to our attention as an oversight on our part for not refunding right away, then we give a bit extra back because they did this instead of jumping the gun and assuming we were trying to cheat them instead of it being a mere oversight. Shipping has always been an issue but we're getting better at calculating it out properly. Recently, we just got used to the costs and then CP made changes... lol Now, we're learning everything over again. The last thing we want to do is "rip" anyone off. We're human (old lol) and can make a mistake but always glad to work things out should we screw up. We even put a blurb up in our policies about this, but unfortunately, not all buyers read up on everything before bidding...
I think people (not all) tend to be overly sensitive to the issue of being scammed (who can blame them, really) because of how things can be out there. You know, "once bitten, twice shy", shame though, that they came to us after being "bitten" and now assume all sellers are the same.

You are spot on. The "fee upon shipping" charge is nothing more than a cash grab from Ebay. When they changed their policy so that sellers had to use the shipping calculator I have been consistenty paying extra out of my own pocket when I go to the Post Office because the calculator does not take into account taxes and fuel surcharges. Year over year sales are down as are the value of the items I sell yet the fees continue to rise. I can see the "fee upon shipping" as a penalty for sellers who consistently profit on shipping but that is not the case for many of us. We are subsidizing the buyer on shipping AND being penalized for doing so. How can I get 5 stars for shipping and get punished at the same time? At the rate I am going I will be paying people to buy from me. No wait - I think I'm there now 😞

When using the DSR feature for this item I figured if the procedure gives me an opportunity to leave a low star rating for Shipping Charges, so why not tell the truth as to my feelings. I gave the seller a one star rating for S&H. Yes I knowingly agreed to all costs related to the purchase, but Ebay still gave me a chance to complain through the DSR.
This is the crux of the problem with DSRs -- many buyers treat them as mere opinion polls or ranting forums to make them feel better, not realizing that doing what you've just described could be the end of the seller's hard-earned TRS rating, or downgrade the seller's status generally. But experienced buyers (and sellers!) should know better.
Why would you do such a thing, if you were made aware of the shipping charges and accepted them by purchasing the item? Perhaps this seller was indeed "padding" the shipping, but it wasn't a scam -- you knew what you were being charged, and the seller paid the FVF on his shipping charge, so he got punished at both ends. It is just possible that the seller overcharges shipping to pay for self-insurance and materials, but he wasn't hiding the cost.
Acting in this punitive manner -- leaving a "1" DSR -- is particularly unfair coming from another seller, who should be well aware of the potentially damaging effects of such a rating. You sound as if you were pleased with your action. You felt better because you had a chance to "complain", but wouldn't it have been far better to contact the seller before purchasing the item and point out that shipping seemed unreasonably high, and asking if they could reduce it? My guess is that he might have listened to another seller.

Some honest sellers didn't know about the errors on the calcutated shipping. I usually contact them to make sure that their asking shipping costs are right before I bid or buy, usually they said they are errors.
Some other sellers insisted it is what it cost them to ship, saying they have to charge for packaging tapes, to print shipping labels, for working by writing on custom forms (green paper pasted on packages), paying gas, etc., etc., etc. which is excessive handling charges and that is when I avoid them.
eBay don't know? I think they knew because they like it so they can charge final value fees on shipping costs. So when the sellers list their excessive shipping costs, it makes eBay happy so they get lots of $$$$ in final value fees on the excessive shipping costs.
As for being "penalized" sellers, yes eBay to penalized us for using combing shipping. It is ironic that they encourage us to use combined shipping but penalized us at the same time. I think we should get 5 stars in DSRs for combined shipping, I don't see that!
eBay has lots of conspiracy in many ways, one of them is final value fees on shipping costs, never mind that we actually pay the exact shipping costs, sometimes we pay the difference for the shipping costs due dollar par (dollar exchange) from time to time) and yet eBay "steal" more $$$ from it, coming out of our pockets!! Never mind we don't make any profits from the shipping costs, even eBay encourages us not to make profits but eBay is the ONES that make profit from it, very ironice here!!!! ?:|

Report item? Has any one ever looked at this, its all multiple choice. And all most all of it is to the effect of is eBay being cheated out of it high profits. Very little about the buyer being taken.eBay only acts on Reports if it will effect their profit line or has legal ramifications.
It's easy to pick out the Sellers on here by their feedback number and how they say they are not making any profits. I do not believe for a moment that any of them are loosing money or they would not be here.
eBay shipping labels do not have the postage shown on them and I hate this. It is so the Buyer does not know how much they are being taken for. Let some Seller explain to me why two items of the same size and weight shipped from Florida by First Class Mail International by two different Sellers, one has an eBay shipping label and I'm charged $27.00 and the other is hand addressed and has a $10.00 USPS sticker on it and I'm charged only $12.00? And they both used the same size box.

The way to avoid this is to check the shipping costs on the listing (shipping tab) and/or contact the seller for a quote before committing to the purchase. If the seller charges you more than the listing states, you can report it to eBay.
If the seller doesn't clearly show shipping costs in the listing, don't buy from that seller and move on to one who does. Most reputable sellers keep their shipping rates up front so buyers don't get the kind of nasty surprise you got and can decide before buying whether the shipping costs are fair.
