A buyer recently left me a negative. She lied in the negative by stating I only made excuses. Ya right!!

She said she didn't receive the first dvd I sent. She had paid $2 to ship the thing, no insurance. It's my policy that regardless of this (no insurance) if the buyer says they didn't get the dvd, well, then I ship another. After a few very friendly emails, we came to the conclusion that the dvd wasn't going to show up so I sent another.

All of a sudden, her patience wore thin and her emails were no longer friendly, but became confrontational and accusatory. She suggested that I was trying to "take" her and that I hadn't send any dvd let alone a second. A couple of days later, the 2nd dvd showed up. Rather than sending me an apology, she negged me. At that point I was out the money for the 2nd dvd, plus the shipping and I had a neg to show for it. Oh well, life goes on. I left her a neg as it was MY reflection of the transaction that I had a negative experience. Simple as that.

Then, she files with Square Trade to have ME remove her neg. I responded to the thing with the fact that they could remove hers, IF they removed mine. Short of that, no dice. Back and forth a few times. I get notified earlier today from Square Trade that the buyer does NOT want the neg she left me lifted, but still wants me to remove hers.

I replied, not on your life..........is it just me or do any of you also think this nimrod is on some sort of mind altering drug??? I mean why the heck would I lift her neg??? What's in it for me? Sheesh

What a whacko that guys is eh Anatoly! Sheesh

I've come across a few in the past 5 years I've been on ebay. Considering I've done several thousand transactions, I guess it's not too bad as the majority I've come across are very nice and honest.

I think I've been on the other end, NPBidders make me want to write long winded stories on how they are the scrouge of the earth and are costing me money by bidding then disappearing... how they should be kicked off Ebay and earth......

Normally takes me 15-20 minutes to compose, then after re-reading and editing a few times, drop the whole thing and never bother to send....it turns into great therapy for my loss!

Hey,

This is my first time posting on the boards, and now I get to vent.

I am really mad, I had 3 buyers who never contacted me before leaving a neg but claimed they did.

It is so funny how I notice eBay works, well at least for me.

I have sold to over 700 users these past two months, and first of all I have 334 non paying bidders ......

and I have tons of a great feedback record... well Did as of a couple days ago.

I go through Squaretrade to resolve any issues, and even though people claim things get lost or damaged I still help out every step of the way.

I just dont get it. people need to leave more feedback for positive transactions.

I am awaiting on 448 Feedbacks!!!!

I would be over 700, but .... people dont leave feedback.

Please enlighten me.

As for the negatives, I have contacted the buyers, and we are going through Squaretrade to resolve the miscommunication.

But it burns my butt that people dont communicate properly.

How am I supposed to know there is a problem, if I am not informed.

Please give me some insight, and maybe also some tips on how to stop Non Paying Bidders.

Write a leaflet on how to stop NPB, sell it for $1 and I guarantee that you will be able to retire a millionaire in a month.

There is no question that eBay could tighten membership rules and run checks and cross checks to make certain previously bounced SOBs arent allowed to rejoin and get a new eBay ID to harass us again but the cost would be prohibitive.

You would probably be looking at 50% of the people currently bidding on eBay as well.

Its the anonymity of bidding that makes it easy for people to renage on the deal and not proceed to pay you when they win. They sit hundreds or thousadns of miles away and you can write all the nasty emails that you want, there is nothing personal about it. No voice contact, no one on one.

I think what bothers me most is eBay stating that it is a binding contract! What the heck does that mean when someone doesnt proceed with the purchase and breaks the contract eBay allows us, as seller to become the recipient of a barrage of negative feedbacks and accusations for purportedly not sending the goods.

This binding contract in the language is the part that is rubbish, for the most part not enforceable and really not given any worth by eBay themselves when we report a NPB to them.

NPB are repeaters of bidding, winning and not paying. Once in a while you get someone who has made a mistake, someone else in their house had access to their computer or some other, plausible excuse is given and understood as being legitimate reason for not proceeding.

It is the pros that do it randomly and repeatedly that eBay should deal with more severely or eBay itself could be at risk for nor policing the criminal element. The last thing eBay needs is for the buying public to believe that eBay is filled with crooked sellers and for us sellers to have to face an increasing number of fake eBay customers.

"334 non paying bidders "

Something is not right when you have that many NPBs, even if you have sold 700 items in the last 2 months. That is a very high ratio of NPBs to sales. Have you been adding these NPBs to your blocked bidder list?

I deal in video games and DVDs and I have never had that many NPBs throughout my entire sales experience.

Yeah, way too high a NPB rate. I've only had about 40 in 2 1/2 years!! And there are just some jerks around and you need to not dwell on them, get over it and move along. I had a real a$$ last MAy who wouldn't be satisfied with anything. Lovely guy sent me threatening mails, signed me up for porno sites, etc. I merely sent the emails to his ISP and he hasn't been heard of since at ebay. Vengeance is sweet, but only when done properly. Going down to their level, unless you don't intend to SEND, doesn't accomplish much and leaves you open to more trouble. And alot of buyers don't leave positives..another fact of life. Although I love when they do, I don't worry about it either. One guy on the .com board used to send out feedback reminders, but I think you'd open more cans of worms than you'd really want to know about! Glori

Your are right about not contacting people that you have sold to that dont leave you feedback. Like the old saing goes "Be careful of what you ask for..."

I feel, like a tip in a restauarant, that for me it is not automatic. If earned, it is given, if not then leave it alone.

I once had a waiter chase my entire famliy half-way down the street in Montreal after we didnt leave him a tip. The waiter spent the entire night catering to a very large table of guests and left us alone to even get our own water.

Our one hour dinner took 2 hours because of the bad service and when he cornered us I yelled out for the police and the restauarant owner came running and pulled his deadbeat help away and offered us an apology (put that in the bank and ask for change).

Anyway,there's my 2 cents.

Malcolm I don't blame you one bit. I think there has only been one time I didn't leave a tip. I was in Pembroke (or was it Kingston....lol) at a Pizza Hut. I was alone as I was away on business. The waitress totally forgot about me........twice. She even admitted it........laughing hysterically with OH MY, I FORGOT ALL ABOUT YOU....so I left her zero, nada, nothing. Boy was I angry. I was there for a long time, and I practically had to serve myself.

I agree with you.....I don't ask for feedback. My policy is to leave feedback at the end of the transaction......in other words when the buyer has the parcel and is happy with it. Once the buyer notifies me either by email, or feedback, then I leave it. Most buyers let me know by leaving the feedback.

Malcolm - I would have written the owner of that Restaurant a nice long email. We had that happen here once when we went for breakfast at a very exclusive Manoir that overlooks the falls. We were seated on the terrace and that was it, after that we were ignored. A few other couples came in after us and it ended up that they were eating their meals before we even got a cup of coffee. We didn't even have flatware. So, when we got home, I found their website. I wrote a sincere, well worded email describing my utter disappointment that such a romantic outing became a fiasco. I got a response in a couple of hours. The owner called me and apologized profusely. He said that to make it up to us, we were invited to an evening of Table d'Hote for 2, by the windows overlooking the falls and a bottle of wine. The meal was out of this world and was worth about $100 a plate. They waited on us hand and foot and I mean the water was replenished every 15 minutes, the sommelier poured the wine just as often. Waiters buzzed around the table, the entire time. It was heaven and it was on the house. As far as I was concerned, they were forgiven. I have gotten free clothing and cosmetics too, because I just won't take it anymore. I treat my customers like they are the only ones I have and I expect to be treated that way, as well :))) The only bummer is...I wish I would have learned that when I was way way younger!

That used to happen to me when I travelled frequently on business when given an unsatisfactory room.

When checking out they would give me the room free however would not, instead, offer me another night free at some other time. So, my employer saved money and I was inconvenienced. Ususally 2-3 times per year.

The only exception was the Embassy Suites in Atlanta When I used to live there, I would take my family for weekend get-aways, sometimes only a few blocks from our house. There was a problem with the pool and the manager gave us another 2 full weekends (4 nights total) at the hotel (including breakfast and open bar in evenings).

I once had a problem with service at an Outback restaurant and did the same thing. Emailed them when I got home. Got an invite back from the manager and he was gracious as heck when we took him up on it a few weeks later. He paid the whole bill, drinks included which wasn't what we had expected. It does pay to complain.

Malcolm, the incident my daughter most clearly remembers about complaining is when we stayed at the Ramada Renaissance in Ottawa for Xmas one year. We had a nice room in the hotel (rather than stay at a very crowded relative's home) but I was a little upset with housekeeping because they made up the room and didn't bother to clean the washroom at all.

I called the front desk to complain but got no satisfaction so I asked to speak to the on-duty manager. His response was immediate. He was moving us to their grand penthouse suite with his compliments for the next two nights to compensate for our inconvenience.

For the next two days my kid thought we had died and gone to heaven or won the lottery. The suite consists of an enormous master bedroom with sitting room and a large entertaining room that consisted of a dining table for 12, an enormous bar with higly polished brass accents and an entertainment centre that lacked nothing and that took up an entire wall. Everything was rosewood and the view from downtown Ottawa rooftops is wonderful.

Needless to say, housekeeping didn't miss anything for the balance of our stay.

So the secret is to complain about your room no matter how nice it may be and get the penthouse suite.

There is a chain of hotels in the US that guarantee if you have any complaints at all, your stay is automatically free. When checking out they ask you if you had any problems with the room and I am afraid to say I have never had a free night's stay there as everything has always been 110%.

No, the secret is to complain when you have a legitimate beef rather than keep silent and allow businesses to perpetuate shoddy service.

>>>>>>>>Begin Rant>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The thinking when WalMart moved to Canada was that the Canadian retail sector was finally going to learn, at the feet of the master, all about customer service and employee politeness.

That never materialized because they hired back all of the employees from the failed business they bought out (KMart Canada) and, it seems, imparted none of that southern hospitality to their new employees. The majority of Canadian retailers still don't have a clue when it comes to treating their customers with any level of politeness ot respect.

More retailers should post watchdogs to ensure that their employees treat all customers in a patient, respectful manner and discipline those that don't as well as reward those that do.

You are right about the great Canadian service industry

But dont complain. Its thanks to the bad shopping experience people have at retail establishments that our eBay businesses will see continued growth and success.

Bring back the Kmarts, Towers, Pascals, Eatons of Canada, I can use a boost in my sales.
