Just wondering, Kim, why there seems to be a double standard, since the changes will not affect mail remaining within Canada. Or have I misunderstood that?

I would really like to understand how come it costs less to send a guitar strap to Europe than it does within the same Province?

"The Regulations to the Canada Post Corporation Act specify that a letter-post item may not contain any “goods” like a small gift, book, CD or similar item. Unfortunately, some retail outlets misinterpreted the Regulations and were accepting some letter-post items in error."

Here! Here!

Exactly what I am talking about!

Canada Post's job is to deliver the mail, not to pinch and scrap their customers just because they have a monopoly!

I can see reasons of safety for excluding some materials (flammables, etc), but otherwise, why would the need to know be important?

Canada Post taking action to ensure consistency in our acceptance procedures. This means that only printed materials will be accepted as Letterpost. All our guidelines on this will be updated by September 19th, so in effect that is our transition date to ensure that only printed matter (or items having the characteristics of paper e.g. sewing patterns, photographs) is accepted.

Q. Why is it more expensive to mail an item within Canada than to the US?

A. The price we charge customers in Canada is aligned with the cost of the service itself. Please bear in mind that serving a relatively small number of people over the vast geographic area of Canada makes an important difference in a postal service and its economies.

Perhaps you could help us all out by explaining why these changes are needed

Canada Post has completely lost touch with their customers. When an organization spends as much time thinking up such anal minutia as defining what constitutes "lettermail" and can't make the rates simple, and uniform and give customers an incentive to use their service, they are in serious trouble. Until you folks start listening and doing something to gain the support of business, you will continue to lose business to couriers, and those of us who find it easier and cheaper to drive across the border and give our business to the U.S. Post Office.

So change the regulation! Your current regulations were probably made by the great-grandfathers of the people who actually USE CD-ROMs.!

Kim, a little birdie told me that you are raising your Small Packet rates within the next month or so. Can you confirm that, please?

It's obvious that Canada Post is trying to wring even more money out their customers. Thankfully, as a buyer + seller on eBay, I have alternatives to CP.

Once Canada Post realizes that they are to SERVE the customers of Canada, maybe more people will use them.

Until then ....

Hi Kim,

I sell most of my products to international customers worldwide. Most of the time I'm able to use CP Small Packet (US and/or Intl.) which is fine.

Sometimes I would need something like Small Packet also for domestic shippments - but as we know Canada Post doesn't offer that service for Canadian shippments.

I would like to know why CP doesn offer that? I bet there would be a huge demand.

Please advise.

Thanks
Erich

Kim, could you please tell us why there will now be two standards -- one for the domestic letter mail, and another one for mail leaving the country?

Why does the wording of the memo to postal outlets (re letterpost) contain a great deal of wording NOT found in the links to the postal guide you previously posted?

Another big topic that came up was "how do we justify rate increases?"

A. This is a question that nobody is ever going to like the answer to. I like you do not like having to pay more for services, but unfortunately this is a part of doing business. We are faced with pressures on our bottom line as a result of inflation and increases of the combined cost of collecting, processing, transportation and delivery.

In order to be competitive in my Ebay business it is very important to keep my overhead as low as possible-the shipping rates are costly when compared to the USPS & difficult to explain this to US customers, I end up losing because on some items they have to be double boxed to insure safe arrival (hmmm...wondering if some of the pkgs are used as foot balls), any suggestions that would make shipping more economical????
thx Kim

Scrapbook stickers and paper items with cardboard backing (to protect it) are accepted as letterpost.

A CD ROM within a card is not acceptable.

I mentioned "hard" plastic before as being unacceptable. I should say all plastic.

Thanks,

- Kim
