Hi all ok whats with the large increase in the ebay rates?
wow they are really going for a big one this time

I would like to know how other people feel about this and if anyone from ebay can inform us to why the large increase in fees???

I think I am wrapping up this experiment as well.

Sales have declined as Ebay has not promoted itself to attract new buyers, the US$ exchange rate is so unattractive, Canada Post and other freight rates to rise and now an increase in Ebay fees.

This wasn't a very high margin activity at best. Now it is turning into a no margin activity.

I think it's time to ask the next logical question. If eBay is the place to see and be seen for virtual sales, how do the other online auctions actually stack up? Are the cheaper rates a matter of ya get what ya pay for?

Having said that, I am now in the process of trying to make nice with a local auctioneer that I recently parted company with. eBay seemed like the greener grass. I'm guessing that large quantities of Tim Horton's coffees as incentives will be required.

I am a Canadian Powerseller who is getting tired of everyone getting into my wallet! Just add Ebay to the long growing list of companies increasing fees this year. Between Ebay, the banks, the utility companies, gas companies and property taxes, I don't have enough money to feed the "greed" machine. I have not been impressed with the quality of service from Ebay this past year, now we're paying more for less. Anybody else out there tired of this? The average middle income consumer is getting shafted again, as always!

Let's face it, the writing was on the wall. We just chose to look the other way. I was personally to lazy to bother with alternatives like my own web presence or a physical presence such as commercial or even upscale flea market space around town because of almost parental reliance on ebay. Thanks alot Dad.

I knew those days of trolling off to the bank laughing *literally sometimes* at a 1.61 exhange rate and low listing fees were too good to be true.

Dont think for a second ebay hasnt already factored in the inevitable complaints, bitching, possible protests, migration of a noisy few, subsequent reluctant acceptance, maybe a pull-back on one or two of the price increases to show good faith, and the continuation of business as usual. Its all been foreseen.

Boycotts and letters aint gonna mean a damn thing, so dont waste your time.

Who knows what other evils are in the works? Do we really want to stick around and get blindsided again?

It looks like the 8% thing is only on stores no?

If you don't have a store, don't sell on eBay motors and don't use Gallery then it's only the BIN increase to be concerned about.

I see a gallery increase, an increase in the listing of BIN's, 10 day fee doubles, store increases, then business/industrial and ebay motors changes.

It would seem that fvf on auctions and fixed priced listings remain unchanged.

I notice there's a lot of other changes in the .ca pricing - but those are most to bring them in line with the .com site from what I've seen.

letters and boycots do mean something. If I get a complaint from a customer, there is a problem. ebay won't reverse the fee increase, but a wake up call does mean something.

Mine is in the mail.

I will look at all fees and may even close the store. Haven't decided.

I will change the way I list. I will look at other sites, especially for book items as it would be expensive to list now. This means I may look and or list at more than one site.

What is needed is for an alternative site to wake up and go after this business. If they don't, then management at the other sites are all incompetant.

While my January sales have been in a slump, eBay has only accounted for 35% of my sales so far in 2005.

Well here is the icing on the cake. I just rec'd a Neutral from a customer. They purchased a keyboard that I listed saying 3 times in my listing that it is best suited for a CHILD. They bought it for an adult and were dissapointed with the keyboard which I refused to take back due to their mistake.

I could really do without having a marking system in runnning my business from idiot buyers who hold me responsible for their mistakes.

I dont mind dealing with idiot customers as they arise but giving them the power to affect all future sales is now in my opinion "Totally Ridiculous".

I am tired of trying to avoid negs because to do so means to not operate my business as a business man should, and give in to each customers demands, regardless of how stupid and costly they are.

While sourcing product in a consignment store this morning I ran into a fellow Power Seller. She, like the rest of us, is just sick about these increases and is liquidating a lot of her merchandise via the consignment store. This appears to be another way to diversify for those of us who sell collectibles. While the R.O.I. isn't high with a consignment store it's a means of generating a little cash flow on merchandise that may otherwise be stagnating in the eBay store. While driving home it occured to me that selling to antique and retro stores as a 'picker' may hold even more capital promise.

I suspect that eBay may not be aware just how small our margins can be after 'cost of goods sold' etc.. Last summer, I know, that eBay was making more money on my merchandise than I was. I've been anxious to see if this has continued beyond the summer but unfortunately my acountant (a.k.a. my girlfriend) has been seriously in arrears in maintaining the accounts.

Today I'll be removing more items from my store and signing up to more alternative auction sites.

Probably hundreds of them were closed last two days. Maybe eBay try to send us a warning: "Ha, what now? How do you feel WITHOUT your eBay store..?" ;-))

Between 1000 and 1500 eBay stores have closed since yesterday with many more sellers promising to close them on or before Feb. 17th. Ebay shares have dropped 4% since yesterday as well. Ebay's making the News in the U.S. as being ultra greedy. It's possible that they're beginning to get the message.

Wagglepop's target was to sign up 100 stores for the first week and 1500 for the year. They've recieved over 200 store sign-ups since yesterday. It looks like they're going to ahieve their targets. It's time to divest eBay shares and encourage Wagglepop to go public. Last one out of eBay stores be sure and turn out the lights.

Goldman Sachs recommends a buy for ebay stocks as they say the newly increased fees will generate additional revenue of 25 to 75 million. "The fee increase will cause only typical temporary attrition in listings, followed by a rebound to normal levels."

Greedy and stupid, thats all, If we keep up with listings like we do, this is going to easily cost an extra $1000-$2000 monthly for us, on top of CanadaPost increase and the stupid declining dollar.
