GSP/Canada Post Overdue Item Issue

Hello everyone, I purchased my item from a seller in the US who then sent the package on May 8/2020 to the GSP centre. From there, it was sent to Canada on May 14/2020. The last update was May 15/2020 simply stating "Customs Cleared". That's it, there have been no further updates since and the item still has not shown up. I know Canada Post is experiencing serious delays recently, however it has now been close to 4 weeks since the last update. Should I give it more time before filing a dispute with eBay? I know I can probably get a refund, but since this is a very unique item, my preference is to get the actual item. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: GSP/Canada Post Overdue Item Issue

If the last estimated date for delivery has passed, open the Dispute and get your refund.

Mention in the Dispute that this is a GSP shipment, so you also get your import fee (which covers duty and Sales Tax) back.

Because this is a GSP shipment, there will be no impact on the seller, who did her job, but it would be polite to let her know what happened and that USPS First Class Package International is cheaper and has Delivery Confirmation to Canada.

Getting a refund doesn't mean you won't get your item. It's in the system somewhere, and as you know, the post is struggling with more than Christmas levels of shipping with a staff that is off on sick leave, child care leave, and working with social distancing.

But get that refund because you only have 30 days from the delivery deadline to Dispute.

When the parcel does show up, you have a different dilemma.

The seller was paid properly.

GSP doesn't want it back.

And you got a refund on something you actually received.

Perhaps a Food Bank donation?

Re: GSP/Canada Post Overdue Item Issue

Thank you so much for the reply! I will go ahead and open a dispute for an INR, although I believe PayPal gives you up to 180 days to do it through them. My frustration is that this item was a piece of rare US currency which rarely comes up for sale in this condition, and I really wanted it for my collection. That said, $1,000 is a lot of money to walk away from. If it does show up at some point, your suggestion of donating to a food bank is brilliant, or perhaps to BLM. In any event, I appreciate your advice.

Re: GSP/Canada Post Overdue Item Issue

Are you using the Canada Post tracking number at this point or are you still going off the Pitney Bowes/GSP tracking code (starting with something like UPAA)?

If you only have the Pitney Bowes tracking code, try looking the item up n one or both of the Pitney Bowes tracking sites:

https://parceltracking.pb.com/

https://tracking.pb.com/

You should see just below the item’s “progress meter” a link you can tap or click on that will take you to the carrier’s website. Sometimes you can get a few more clues in your item’s progress that way.

That said, I agree with the suggestion to recover your funds at this point. While PayPal may give you a bigger window of time to do this, your charges from Pitney Bowes/GSP are separate from your charges from the seller and may be tougher to get reversed. Or not 🤷🏻‍♂️ The GSP terms and conditions for buyers do hint that eBay’s Money Back Guarantee is the way to go, though.
