Question as a buyer about possible lost shipment.

I'll make this short:

I bought 2 Blu-rays off of one of eBay's biggest sellers. I've purchased from them before without any issues.

I live in Western Canada and purchased from the United States. They shipped both Blu-rays as one package. Package left in the hands of UPS where it made it's way to New York. Instead of crossing in to Canada it was shipped to an international carrier in Australia. It is there the updates stop on November 19th.

I contacted the seller and told them the mistake. They contacted me back, called me "customer" instead of using my name and told me they shipped the package to Canada.

Today I check the UPS tracking once again. It still has the last update from Australia and nothing further. This time however I get a help prompt to enter my tracking number. It says my package is a UPS Mail Innovation package that gets transferred to Canada Post and that I would have to go to their website to get updates on the delivery. The prompt also tells me they can't start an investigation on packages that go missing while under Canada Post.

I go to Canada Post official website and the tracking number is not registered with them.

Has anyone ecountered this type of problem before?

I know I can get my money back by opening a case with eBay but that would mean the items I bought as Christmas gifts under the prices they were are now lost.

I'd give it a week after the latest estimated date for delivery.

You only have 30 days, from eBay's last estimated date for delivery, to open a Not Received case.

Don't let that limit lapse.

What would you do if there were no tracking information for the item? Probably something along the lines of what @mcrimn suggests: Wait a smidge after the last estimated delivery date and then pursue a refund if it hasn’t arrived by then.

Knowing where your item is or isn’t doesn’t change the fact that you haven’t received your item yet.

Also consider that receiving a refund for the Blu-rays doesn't affect whether or not they'll eventually reach you.  Should you receive them after a refund has been issued, get in touch with the seller and work out how you're going to pay for the Blu-rays again.

Given the disaster in British Columbia, COVID, and who knows what else, I think we all need to employ back-up plans and flexibility this holiday season.

Never watch tracking.

It is counter-intuitive, doesn't speed the shipment, and doesn't prevent damage.

Except to your mental health.

Tracking is a Seller Protection.

What is the last estimated date for delivery?
If you open a Dispute in the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page*.

If the Seller cannot prove delivery (not shipping, delivery) you will be refunded.

*Use the automated system, the phone clerks are much slower and give poor information.
