I know it's my fault. I usually check the shipping conditions of a seller before buying anything. I missed it this time. And then:
- How soon will my item ship?
Your item will ship within 10 days of your purchase.
Ten days? Are you fricking kidding me? For my listings, the longest I'm able to enter is "within 4 business days". But my listings are set at 2 or maximum 3 business days.
/Rant ends.

Delivery date options for buyers
Estimated delivery dates let you know when you can expect an eBay item to arrive.
Are you a seller looking for information on estimated delivery dates? Read our article on estimated delivery dates for items you've sold
If you need your item to arrive before a specific date, check the estimated delivery on the listing before you go to checkout.
Where to find your estimated delivery date
You can find an estimated delivery date on any eBay listing that offers shipping. The estimate will usually cover a range of days, but can get more precise after you confirm your delivery address during checkout.
After completing your purchase, you'll see an updated estimate in your purchase history - opens in new window or tab along with any tracking information if it's been uploaded by your seller.
If you bought as a guest, your estimated delivery date will be in your order confirmation email.
How estimated delivery dates are calculated
Estimated delivery dates are based on:
- Handling time: Sellers set their handling time based on how long it takes them to package the item and prepare it for shipping. This can range from the same working day, to up to 30 business days from when they receive payment
- Shipping or courier services: Most sellers offer a variety of delivery options, so you can choose the service you prefer when you’re checking out. Delivery times can vary depending on which service is used
- Cleared payment: Once the order is confirmed, the seller can ship the item. However, sometimes the seller may wait until the payment is in their account before they send your item
Tip
If you need to get your item urgently, check to see if your seller offers an express delivery option.
Weekend delivery
Whether an item can be delivered during the weekend depends on the shipping options provided by the seller. An item's estimated delivery date is based on working days, so weekends and public holidays aren't included in that calculation.
If the seller doesn't offer weekend delivery, you can contact them to ask if it's possible. If the seller agrees to your request, you may have to pay additional shipping fees.

I've been seeing notes generated by eBay on listings lately where the handling or shipping time seems to be unusually long, but I can't remember if this was on the app, the desktop version of eBay, or both. This may be another of eBay's beta tests, I don't know, but if it is, it's probably wasted on me given that I don't purchase more than a couple of items in a month at best. Was the ten day note that you saw eBay generated or part of the seller's description?

It was buried in the seller's description. Again, shame on me for not reading that first.
It's a quite hard to find item, so I will be patient (no choice). It's just that I don't understand why it would take that long to package and ship a single item.

Any Seller can set the Handling times they so choose, why are you so in a huff about someting you overlooked?
I posted the eBay policy which explained those facts, and even the simple little "copy & paste" did not sink in...

For a variety of possible reasons they may only be able to ship every 10 days.
There is also the possibility the majority of their sales get shipped in 9 or 8 or 7 or 6 or 5 or 4 or 3 or 2 days or even same day. And some of course in 10 days (representing the maximum.)
My listings all show 5 business days handling. Only a small percentage gets shipped in 5 days. The majority in 4 or 3 or 2. Rarely same day, not as gung ho as I was back in the day here.
Not sure why you are limited to 4 days.
Remember, timing IS everything.

Sellers can set handling times for a variety of durations and that is their CHOICE! During the Canada Post Strike my handling time was set for 15 days......

As mrdutch has mentioned some people extended their time during the postal strike. It's possible they did and never changed it back. Hopefully they don't take advantage of their full 10 day window. It's possible they are hoping for several sales to make that post office trek more affordable. I believe only Top Rated Sellers have to ship within the lower time frame (unless that changed).
I've bought many times here over the years but I do remember one time my item had not shown being shipped for a few days past the date it was supposed to, but I didn't want to be one of those pesty people bugging them after a couple of days so I waited, thinking maybe they had shipped it and forgot to "mark as shipped".
Eventually enough time past I had to reach out and good thing too, they had "OMG I completely forgot", they had put the package in their desk drawer at work and forgot about it until I messaged them!
