do not buy from sellers that use UPS - tracking # system is ???

During this global pandemic situation, I avoid buying from US and China. So I think that within Canada, shipment is OK. My experience with Amazon is very OK, still the same as if there is no pandemic, same with some other e-business supplier

In fact it is not the same in the eBay - world. I purchase an item from eBay seller in Ontario. Getting charged for shipment with UPS and also have to pay tax, since they are business entity. I bought the item May 23, the first notice when I key in the tracking number was June 1. Well, not fast enough but it make sense. Morning of June 1, the tracking still told me that this will be delieverd by June 1, 9 PM. Waited until 9 PM, nothing.

The next day, June 2 - the tracking number show June 4 by 9 PM

Again same story, by June 4 - suddenly tracking does not work. In the evening, suddenly the date of delivery is June 10.

This is the joke,  the tracking is only updated when UPS cannot deliver at that date and so far until today the item is still in Ontario and I live in Metro Vancouver, BC.

I contact the seller to cancel the transaction. The seller claimed that is happening all over eBay, not only with UPS but other shippers. Is this true?

I used to be an obsessive tracking geek until I realized that knowing where my item has been is not nearly as important as receiving it in the advertised condition and in the timeframe specified in the listing.

Is there a particular reason why tracking information is so important to you as a buyer?

yes, shipping is slow all over Canada especially Ontario to Quebec, and Quebec to Ontario, items, that normally take 3-4 days, are taking over 30 days.. and Canada post has cancelled all it's delivery guarantees months ago..

I make purchases here in Ontario, the UK, Australia, Thailand, etc.. Mailing is extremely slow everywhere. I just received a few parcels I purchased the later part of April from the UK. They were slow in leaving the UK and slow here to arrive, but they did arrive and in good order. I made a purchase in Thailand just as this virus issue was starting. Guess what? They close all posting to the Americas until further notice. So my package is sitting in Thailand, but it will get here. Unless it is a life or death issue, and it is something you really want, why sweat it, you will get it in the end. Might be a Christmas gift to yourself....

Yes it is true.

We don't often hear o f UPS being used for delivery because they are often more expensive than the postal system.

This is even more true when the seller is in the USA. There is a thread archived on the Buyer Board with 5000+rants about the iniquity of UPS.

Although your seller seems to have passed the shipment to UPS quickly, his chosen shipper is not doing much of a job for him.

But from long experience, some 30 odd years, in mail order, I consider any shipment from anywhere in North America that arrives within 20 days to be successful.

YMMV.

The UPS promise is not very important. What dates did eBay give you as a window for delivery?

If the shipment doesn't arrive before that deadline, you have 30 days to open a Not Received dispute with eBay.

If your purchase arrives after the refund, you can repay it using Paypal's Send Money service.
