Just received a ebay scam phone call claiming that $750 was just spent and if it was not me press 1?

I just received a robo call claiming $750 was spent on my Amazon acount, the account is frozen and to press 1 to deny the transaction. The reason why I am postin this here on the Ebay forum is because this occured a few minutes after I updated my cell phone # on Ebay. When I searched the Ebay forums for something similar, I found other people reporting the exact same thing.

In my opinion this isn't a coincidence that it happended right after changing my info on Ebay. It seems to me that personal info is leaked from this site or possibly something is set up to make it look like this BS is coming from Ebay's main competeter.  Either fix the data leak or stop this annoying illegal harassment tactic.

I get calls like this on my landline frequently and my landline number is not on eBay’s database.

It has nothing to do with eBay, maybe you should just hang up and not listen to the whole message as that is also an indication that you are a real person, and you "stay on the line"...

...another good fish to hook!?

These calls are a dime a dozen and as soon as I hear they begi....

When we get a call, and being old and having a landline we get a lot, my answer is "Lastname*, how can I help you?" in my most receptionist voice.
Then I silently count to three  and if there is no response, hang up.

Of course this also leads to frantic cries of "Mum ! Mum! Don't hang up!"

*eg Smith. How can I help you?

It has nothing to do with eBay.  I also get a similar call once or twice a week on a phone number that is not associated with eBay.  The scam is common and Amazon recommends that you hang up and check your account separately to see if there really was such a purchase.   If you did press 1 and spoke with a person on that call you should probably change any information that you did give them.
