Not all US sellers use the service known as eBay International Shipping. Check the “shipping” section for shipping methods stated in the listing page such as a USPS (United States Postal Service) one or one with a generic label (e.g. “Standard International Shipping”). Just make sure you find out what shipping service the seller is using as it may be one that levies stiff customs processing charges.

Also, some sellers are now able to give buyers a choice between direct international shipping and having the item forwarded through eIS.

Better yet, buy from sellers based in and shipping out of Canada. They’d probably love to have your business, @stehi-84.  No need to give up on eBay entirely when there are sellers out there who understand that Canada is a special case.

The eIS is a Seller Protection program designed to encourage US sellers to ship internationally.

Almost all parts of the Money Back Guarantee become inoperative when the seller uses the eIS.

The seller only has to deliver to the eIS hub in Illinois -  after that Item Not Received claims are handled by the eIS and the seller is not responsible.

The eIS usually handles import fees, and the buyer pay them upfront. This stops the 'customs delay' scam.

The seller is still responsible for Not As Described disputes, but only has to provide return shipping from the eIS plant.  Otherwise the buyer is responsible for return shipping if they want a refund.

There is very little in the program for the buyer.
