Update on Postage Label Charges-What actually is this? rant

So I dont know if im the only one receiving this message today but it says the following.

We're reaching out to let you know about some recent billing issues that have affected your account, and the next steps.

We identified a technical error on our platform which meant that some eBay fees and selling costs, including charges for postage and return labels were not applied to sellers' accounts from July to November, 2024. Normally, these would be charged at the time of the transaction or the label being generated. We sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused.

To correct this error, the missing postage label costs will be applied to your account and billed on January 22, 2025. The other missing charges for eBay fees, return labels and other selling costs will not be charged to you.

Once applied, the charges will be shown under Payments in My eBay or the Payments Tab in Seller Hub. You can select View next to each charge to see more details, including the order ID it applies to and the tracking number.

If you'd like to verify all of the fees and selling costs which applied to an order, you can use the box at the top of the All transactions view to search for the order ID, or find it in your Orders tab in Seller Hub.

Now I dont use ebay shipping labels too too much, but I use them from time to time.

Would this mean I have label charges, seller fee's and a bunch of other incoming charges that are going to be piled onto me in the next week? If so this is pretty pathetic and unacceptable from ebay.

I understand I owe this money but the cooporate speak where "we appologize for any inconvienence this may have caused" is just a load of bull. Its such a double standard for us sellers. Ebay can just royally screw up like they did in this instance, and just get off scott free by saying "whops" and probably impact alot of peoples financial well being. But when any seller makes one mistake, even if its something out of their control, they are usually hit with a defect or a negative effect to their account, when we all know that alot of the time those punishments arent deserved or even justified.

Thoughts?

Re: Update on Postage Label Charges-What actually is this? rant

I received the email also and prior to that was aware of being billed months later for labels (as I had got a few of those late charges also). I think this email was just sent out to everyone who used eBay labels last year just to cover their bases while they try and figure out what went wrong and who still owes what. (Jan. 22nd will tell.)

It's unfortunate and a pain from a record keeping standpoint it's true, but in my case at least, they were legitimate charges. I went back  in my records and they hadn't been "checked off" yet, which means they hadn't been billed.

Since I've never done a return label and don't have any outstanding fees I'm assuming they are just doing this as one lump message to all that could be affected.

Throughout 2024, I was never not billed immediately and/or not had the label amount removed from pending funds for shipping labels purchased through eBay... albeit, I don't sell but a handful of items in any given  6month period...

According to the attached any other missing charges will not be charged. For anyone that uses return labels and the buyer  did not use, what has been your experience for getting credited? Did you have to persue to get credited?  How long was the wait? I personally have never required. I do know voided labels can take up to 3 weeks or more.

When looking at the Track and Manage Your Shipments page it's too bad there wasn't some kind of way one could check off item by item to reconcile charges when billing is on a varying random schedule. And it included a custom option so you could go back longer than 90 days, when required.  Just a thought. Would make accounting eBay label charges much easier. Dreamworld scenario would be totally in each section. That would make it easier to pinpoint "bonus" charges and or credits for postage. Interesting to note one can inaccurately short on  a shipment but one never sees credits when its to their good.

Another reason to use postage stamps.

It would be self-advertising if I said how to find discounted mint stamps on eBay.

That's where if you are or a keener (aka crazy) like me who prints out everything just in case you would have it past the 90 days. I always print my payout summary's for the month; check each item off when delivered, and print my label receipts and check them off when billed (that's why it was somewhat easy to look back and see what hadn't been checked off). I also don't have huge volumes of course or this would not be possible. According to my eBay sales report for last year, I sold 271 items, all of which used eBay labels (last year while the prices were good) and of those, 3 were super late billed months later, and according to my check list, two never billed even yet, though I guess they will be on January 22nd..

I know this is not normal behaviour to print stuff, but being oldish (to coin a phrase I read here) I can't help myself, but it does help me in cases like this.

Just download the comma separated transaction list for the last 12 months. Get rid of the crud at the top, turn it into a table and sort by order number. I mean, it would be nice if the ability was built into eBay (and it should be), but it's relatively simple to work around it.
