I have a tracked packet shipment that shows delivered yesterday but the buyer indicates they have not received it. I believe I had a case where this happened and it showed up a few days later.
Has anyone else had this happen?
For now, I sent them the eBay provided ship to address, as I have had people move or go to school and not update the eBay info so items go to their old address. If that is not the case, I will direct them to USPS to do an inquiry. Any other advice is welcome.

I've seen several posts along this line on the .com boards, so, yes, somebody else has had this happen. 😁

I think YOU might be able to do an inquiry with USPS as well, but I'm not 100% positive on that. Otherwise, get them to ask their neighbours if it got delivered there by mistake.

The post you mention may have been related to thre eBay Standard Envelope, the normal procedure for those is that they are scanned on acceptance and then scanned at the delivery Post Office, there are no actual/real delivery scans so the "delivery" scan is often done in the morning with the actual delivery later in the day or sometimes the next day.
Is there any notation with the delivery scan such as "delivered at mailbox" or "delivered at front door"?
The question is did the package actually get a delivery scan at the delivery point or as sometimes happens prior to the actual delivery. If it's the former then it could mean that it was either delivered correctly and then stolen or delivered to the wrong address. If it's the later it's urgent to contact the local Post Office who can check the GPS location of the actual delivery scan, the sooner you can confirm a delivery to an incorrect address the sooner the carrier can go and retrieve the package and the more likely they will be succesful at the retrieval.

My favourite is one when the postie put the package in the buyers BBQ. They didn't find it until the next time they tried to BBQ and after I'd refunded, but they were one of the good buyers and repaid me.....

Yes.
Severa scenarios.
Naturally our American friends immediately start screaming "Scam!".
But the carrier may have marked all their parcels delivered as they packed the van. But deJoy does not allow overtime when the entire route is unfinished at the end of shift.
Or of course, porch pirates-- including lightfingered tenants of apartment buildings.

the postie put the package in the buyers BBQ.
Apparently many Americans keep the BBQ on the front porch, because why would the postie be going into the backyard with a parcel?

As others have said yes this does happen from time to time. I've seen "out for delivery" then randomly it starts showing "in transit to destination". Sometimes it is a postal error. I even had this happen to me this month when buying something for my daughters birthday (not from eBay but it was a trackable package). It showed delivery, I contacted Canada Post and they said it had been delivered the day before (it hadn't) so I hand wrote a note to the mail carrier and taped it in my mail box asking them if they knew about it, and they had put the compartment key in someone else's box by mistake so they put it in mine. Human error is always a possibility too.

Glad they didn't turn it on to preheat before opening the lid!
