Hi,
Canada Post tracking information not being updated on Seller's dashboard. This concerns me because 1- What is the customer seeing? 2- Does this affect my late shipping metrics?
Are other's having the same issue? Has this been addressed already?
Thanks,
Ian

Yes this has been raised earler tyler@ebay had the technical folks looking into it.
(oops I might be misunderstanding what you are asking, these are the updates in the item itself)
Earlier it was only working for US shipments, now checking my stuff:
Canadian ones show updates all the way.
US ones show updates all the way.
International ones only show "tracking number provided'

This problem is intermittent for domestic(within Canada). I've seen DELIVERED at the Canpost site and still in transit 5 days after the fact from eBay. (After items hit Montreal/Toronto) to be forwarded to a final destination.

If you click on the tracking number on eBay Canada you may get one of two options.... for delivery within Canada.
(1) Tracking on eBay Canada shows delivery.
(2) Tracking shows in transit on eBay Canada.... Take a copy of the tracking number and go to the Canada Post website and enter the tracking number.... and see something different... Many times the parcel has been delivered.
I am currently only shipping to Canada. There have been times when the tracking number shows delivery on the Canada Post website, but not on eBay Canada. And... there have been a few times when feedback has been received before the tracking shows delivery on eBay Canada.
The tracking number is a Canada Post tracking number.... There should be no difference between eBay Canada and the Canada Post website.
Why? ..... It is a Canada Post tracking number not an eBay Canada tracking number.

Basically that's what I was saying. The tracking for Expedited that posted from shippo is not updating on eBay in real time. This has been an issue for months. "Most" buyers do not know they can get more accurate results when they go to the Canadapost website. Many buyers monitor eBay tracking to prevent porch pirates for larger parcels.

I agree that the shipping is not accurate on eBay's site compared to Canada Post's site. I have items that show delivered on Canada Post but still show in transit on eBay. Others show that I made up a label but it is not in the system yet whereas Canada Post shows it is has been a long time on it's way to the US. When I drop off my parcels at the post office, I always have them scanned right away. But I think a lot of parcels are not getting scanned by USPS. And now with a lot of seasonal workers helping out, they are not as efficient.

You're absolutely right. Quite some time ago, I started sending buyers direct links to their tracking number on the Canada Post website and, also, if applicable, on the USPS website. Especially for shipments to the U.S., the info on the USPS website is far more detailed than what they'll see through eBay tracking or even the Canada Post website, once it has crossed the border.

Same thing happens when a customer questions postage options. I send them a link with the applicable rates from the Canadapost website. Most, when they view will respond with, "Oh....I didn't realize shipping was that high." Many are still under the impression that shipping is based entirely on an items value. Not other factors like weight/dimensions, their location and services provided by a postal system. Although it is still possible to get the occasional buyer who thinks that you are making the shipping costs up to rip them off no matter what information you share with them.

I’ve done that as well. I’ve even sent them a copy of the receipt portion of the shipping label when they still think they’ve paid too much. Apparently the USPS rates are going up quite a bit in January but they will still be a lot less than ours. U.S. buyers are fortunate and it’s rare for them to pay for shipping from U.S. sellers. They simply can’t believe how high our rates are.

Free Shipping means the cost of shipping is included in the selling price.
Which is cheaper: A $10 item with $5 shipping or a $15 item with Free Shipping?
There is no wrong answer to that question. Some buyers like the low selling price bargain and some like the "free" shipping bargain.
If a Canadian seller can use Letter Rates (under 2cm thick and 500gr) to ship to the USA, it is probably worth using "free" shipping since those rates are based only on weight and dimensions.
It is also useful to know we can list those items on dotCOM as Flat Rate/Free Shipping which opens the lucrative US market.
FWIW- USPS shipping to Canada is not cheap, and is often as expensive as Canada Post, especially once currency exchange is taken into consideration.

I am getting concerned now. I sent an Expedited parcel worth $180.00 to the US on Nov. 27. It was scanned at the post office in Vancouver B.C. & then said it arrived at Richmond B.C. After that there is no record of it crossing the border into the US. When you put the tracking number on the USPS site, all it says is that a label has been made but not yet in the system. The buyer messaged me yesterday asking if I had mailed the parcel yet & why there is no movement. I have no answer for that. I have put in a Ticket claim with Canada Post online. I have no idea where this parcel is. Hopefully CP gets back to me soon.

Your answer to the buyer should be is "yes" (you have mailed it) and that it is your understanding that a lack of scan information does not necessarily mean the package hasn't moved. Invite them to stay in touch if you wish.
