Still no official details on what level it is going to be at or whether it is going to be set at zero. But it is going to change and probably drop significantly as of Tuesday.
Seems like our lives are all about to change substantially. Not talking about our Ebay lives, i'm talking about our Canadian lives. If you read the official statements coming from the White House, Canada has now been classified as a threat to the national security of the US. If we retaliate to the tariffs coming on Tuesday, additional tariffs will be levied on Canada by Trump (this may not matter much because apparently the 25% coming on Tuesday will pretty much shut down all industry doing business with the US).

That's not a juicy tax loophole: it costs more to enforce it than it brings back, so it's basic economy not to charge taxes on small amounts considering the manpower and logistics needed to do so.

I have been speaking with Shopify, eBay and Amazon FBM business owners in Canada all weekend. Most of us have suspended operations until clear direction is given on how packages will be processed across the border. Chit Chats has notified customers that packages that do not clear the border will be held and returned to customers. This could have a deeply negative impact on seller accounts.
devon@ebay do you know if Gary and the team are going to send out an email to Canadian sellers?

Hi @wilsonharborsales! The team is monitoring this situation and if there is any insight that can be shared I will be sure to let yourself and others know.

I had a sale from a US buyer last night and pretty well told them the same thing. Just waiting to hear back from them on which way they want to proceed.
From what I'm hearing Trudeau was talking with Trump this morning and another call is scheduled for this afternoon. Will most likely decide after that if I'm removing the US from my shipping options. This is insane. Was so slow for a long time and sales really picked up in the last month and now this.
As someone was saying on another site let your buyers know and if they are willing to pay the extra 25% tariff then ship. Not much hope in that scenario though, who's going to want to pay that extra charge. And how does that work with our ratings on ebay, a lot of cancellations.

If you read the actual Executive Orders it's clear that the di minimis exemption is eliminited for all three countries.
You can find the three relevant Executive Orders (one for each of Canada, Mexico, China), they all clearly state that the di minimis exemption is ended for all 3.

They may need to consider adding an additional reason for cancelling orders. From my understanding if the item is shipped and refused that is considered an attempted delivery and seller is not penalized in those situations. If anyone can add confirm?

Not sure where you are finding sellers from the US that ship international without the EIS program. Canada is international to them. Its automatically gets taxed. Those days of US goods coming directly to your door from the post office are pretty well gone. That was Customs overload for sure and they didn't have time for all the paperwork so it got through.
You still get the odd seller that still ships directly but not many. I've had a couple of purchases that came without the EIS but still ended up paying taxes when it arrived. EIS is a safety net for them. They ship to the hub and their job is done. They don't need to worry after that if item doesn't arrive, etc. Another + for them is I think they only pay shipping fees to ship to the hub. It all adds up when its larger and more costly items.

Have you been able to discover if CBP (US customs) inspections will happen on ALL shipments going forward? Mail and courier? Previously most everything done low value was done electronically with random inspections. Inspections in theory confirm/identifies goods and if items have been valued incorrectly. Going forward that shoes are not Fentanyl.

@dinomitesales I wondered about that too - when I brought up the "customs" form today, I wondered if it would have something warning wise or wouldn't let me do USA. It did, and depending on what happens later today things might be unchanged, delayed or whatever, time will tell....

Physical inspections of each individual incoming package? Never going to happen, there are millions of them EVERY day.
The bulk of drugs coming into the US are crossing the southern border in commercial vehicles (18 wheelers). If they fully inspected every truck Taco Bell would go out of business due to a lack of avacodos. The Donald would not understand that because avacodos are a fruit, something I doubt DJT has every personally consumed.

AFAIU the 25% TARIFF would apply on canadian-produced goods. So my Japanese-made parts, for example, should be OK ...for now...
The de minimus is another thing, if/when it's actually implimented at $0 exemption (or whatever they actually do) it would more likely be a surprise at the door. eBay collects most state tax as it is.
Either way, I'm still shipping.

Mexico just cut a deal to delay the 25% tariffs for a month. Canada can't afford a trade war with the US its all show in my opinion. We'll make a deal not cause we want to, cause we have to.

Total agreement regarding physical inspections. But if the Donald wants to collect this windfall there needs to be a procedure in place tied to the shipment vs the alternative tied to a transaction/waybill. The procedure has to have some way of being documented.
Currently it is called a Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF)
Only thing I could find from USPS

The MPC is the same type of charge that Canada Post access when they have to collect duty/tax for Canada Customs.
Interesting to note that the $5.95 fee is the same today as it was in 2009.

Do you use plastic tape for German packages or do you have paper tape?
Sorry for the delay in responding. No notification, just saw your question now. I use the same plastic tape that I use for all my envelopes and boxes.

I did a letter to Germany and put plastic tape (because there was no adhesive glue on the mailer). It's still in transit, not sure if he had to pay customs on it (it was a Canada Post tracked packet in a paper mailer), I will have to follow up on that one.

Thanks. I only sent 1 small item to Germany over a year in a kraft paper envelope, but had no clue about the packaging rules so McGivered paper tape from paper and glue to secure it well. 😎
