Hi @user1004 - I've noticed a number of your posts lately have been particularly negative. There's nothing wrong with sharing your feelings - we all need to vent from time to time - but this may not be the best way to get assistance if that's what you're looking for.
Folks on the boards are experts at what they do - they're eBay members like yourself and spend their free time to discuss eBay issues and help one another. If you're looking for help with a particular issue I'd suggest sharing a bit more detail about the situation.
If you're looking primarily just to blow off some steam, go for it! Just make sure that your posts are following our guidelines and aren't disruptive (i.e. don't post the same comment on multiple boards). Thanks!

Well, ya saved me from having to post why I don't buy from ebay anymore. It's the ridiculously high shipping charges.
I was looking at a trinket for a few dollars years ago but the seller wanted close to $50 to ship. I sent the seller an email asking how they can justify the high shipping cost only to not get a response back. If Ebay is your sole source of income might I suggest getting a real job with a steady income instead of trying to **bleep** purchasers on shipping fees.
Amazon IS my new love.

Free Shipping means the cost of shipping is included in the price of the item.
On AZ my customers pay me $6.49 to ship the paperbacks that I charge $12.99 for.
A total of $19.48.
On eBay the same books are listed at $12.99 with Free Shipping.
AZ does not allow me to ship free.
US sellers are particularly paranoid, insisting on the Seller Protection of tracked shipping.
And tracking delivery internationally is very expensive.
If you would rather think than react look at these websites.
Use 17x10x2 cm and 185gm , a small paperback, as a sample.
https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1
It will cost you $1.90 to ship that book from BC to NL by (untracked) LetterPost.
https://postcalc.usps.com/?country=10440
If you choose Envelope, shipping will cost you between $25.85 and $44.50US
If you choose Size and Shape it will cost between $10.50 and $67.80 US
And note that Canada Post present the lowest rate first, while USPS presents the highest rate first.
AZ ships much of its own product from within Canada, while eBay is shipping from independent sellers all over the world.

I agree with the point about outrageous shipping fees. Anyone who hasn't seen that needs to look at some small mundane items and the associated shipping costs. Amazon is slaying Ebay in this area. I do not agree with the point that shipping is simply built into the item price. Again, pricing the same mundane items will show that pretty quickly. You do have to be a Amazon Prime member to get 'free' shipping on under 35 dollar orders, but on the whole, it's been WAY less expensive and more reliable for me buying on Amazon than paying some of the ridiculous shipping charges on Ebay.
Another place where Ebay is losing ground is the number of problems I've had with some sellers. In the past two years, I've had to open more 'item not received', and 'item not as described' claims than in the previous nineteen years (I joined in March, 2009.) An hour before making this posting, I opened yet another case for an item not received more than a week after it was due. I have ordered items from Amazon that arrived two days after the order was made and it has never taken more then five days. I no longer expect trouble free dealings on Ebay and as a result, I rarely buy there anymore unless it's something I simply cannot find anywhere else. It's just not worth the aggravation. Ebay had better smarten up its act or it will slowly fade away...

Please don't lump all eBay sellers into the same group @chris_5758, It's not correct.
There are sellers out there who charge crazy prices to ship. For example I saw a seller wanting over $100 to ship a DVD.
And yes there are sellers who don't respond to private messages. I had one about a month ago. I was ready to buy one of their products but needed a question answered, he couldn't be bothered. The item I wanted sold anyways but took longer since I was no longer interested in making the purchase. Sellers like these create their own rewards and I would be amazed if they last long.
Buy from sellers, find ones who treat you well and stick with them.

A lot of people don't understand the true cost of shipping and Amazon has made it worse because:
A. They are an huge company and have immense buying power to get cheap shipping rates.
B. They are fully willing to lose money shipping out a $5 item with next day delivery, because they have enough sales volume to make up for it.
eBay is huge too but either they can't or don't want to negotiate better shipping rates for their sellers. If I want to ship a 1kg item in Canada its going to be $15-30. The same item to a place like the UK is going to be $55.
One explanation is some eBay sellers may think that they'll get better results by listing with a really cheap price but a very high shipping costs. When you shop eBay its best to just ignore the shipping costs, set your filter to "Lowest Price + shipping", and just go from there.

Yeah, but this guy was worse. He had a higher than average price for his product already. But I've seen sellers as you described who believe they can make their fortune off low price and high shipping. Most people can see through those tactics and avoid them. It's the few who don't see it in time that I feel sorry for.

Which is why eBay some years ago started charging a 10% fee on shipping.
Until they did some sellers had 99c items with $99.00 shipping-- and paid selling fees only on the 99c.
Today that seller would pay 10% on $99.99.
Many sellers now include the cost of shipping into the asking price and advertise Free Shipping.
AZ has Free Shipping for customers who pay $99.00 for a Prime membership.
