EBay’s Global Shipping Service

I'd like to urge all sellers to opt out of eBay's Global Shipping Service. My experiences have shown me loud and clear just how bad it is. Snail pace slow and expensive for buyers and sellers. My latest experience in buying from seller in US Mid West has been painful. After making payment in November my item is still in Chicago at ebay shipping hub. That's three week and it still hasn't left the US. Amazon gets purchases to me overnight.

Save some money sellers and keep your customers happy, opt out and use USPS or a courier service.

Re: EBay’s Global Shipping Service

Canadian sellers are not eligible for the eBay International Shipping option.

It is a Seller Protection service set up , like the Global Shipping Program before it, to encourage US and UK sellers to ship internationally.

I agree that USPS, particularly the First Class International Package service to Canada, is both tracked and fast.

Not cheap though -- a four ounce/100gm package would cost $15.75 USD/~$19.68 from the USA to Canada.

BEFORE buying it can be worthwhile to ask the seller if they would be willing to use FCIP instead of eIS with particular mention of TRACKING which US sellers are paranoid about.

Re: EBay’s Global Shipping Service

BTW, I made two recent purchases from AZ,  which has a shipping centre half an hour up the highway from me in Sidney BC.

The first took two weeks to arrive - an order of 50 rubber duckies that was short by one duckie.

The second took three weeks to arrive- two different sets of outdoor fairy lights from two different companies, which both arrived in the same AZ bag.

@kennuck42, I'm assuming you mean the new-ish "eBay International Shipping" service as I see you made a similar post about the old Global Shipping Program a couple of years ago.

Unfortunately, the eyeballs you want on your post are over on the .com site's discussion boards.  The discussion boards on the Canadian and American sites are quite separate, even though we periodically get visits from a US-based liason between the community and eBay.

I've only purchased one item that was forwarded through eIS and that was early in the summer.  Yes, it took almost three weeks to reach me but that was within the delivery time estimate on the listing page and it's also within the delivery time range for items that I order that are shipped directly by USPS to my semi-remote location on Vancouver Island.

It sounds as though you live in a metropolitan area that's close to an Amazon warehouse.  Comparing overnight domestic shipping from a warehouse that's a loss leader for the company involved to an international standard ground forwarding service handling items that likely originate from small home businesses is an apples and oranges comparison.

Of course, there's room for improvement, but we also have to remember how good we have it. Unlike most other countries, Canada's pretty tightly economically integrated with the US and the program could take better advantage of that fact.  Unfortunately, I suspect the small size of our market doesn't make it an attractive proposition at the moment.  When I took an unscientific survey of US sellers many years ago, I found that sales to Canada don't make up a very significant proportion of most sales from eBay US sellers.
