Do any of you people remember that way way back in the ancient times 12 MONTHS AGO........
The 50 free listings that non-store sellers received were for AUCTIONS ONLY!!!!
So let me get this straight, 50 free Auctions was great until May of 2013, then they added the option to list FP for one year, now it's going back to Auctions only (for select categories) but you get twice as many.
Yeah eBay is really evil!
So you show up at work tomorrow and your boss says" Hey, I know we've been paying you $20/hr for the last year and that's been going well for you but we've decided it's in our best interest to knock you back to $10/hr"
Care to rethink your post on how this isn't that bad!

eBay rules change all the time. So the new 100 free is just another change. Just adapt. That is what many forum members always says. Adapt.
What concerns me more is the free promos. What will happen there? Will they change? Will they be less frequent? Will eBay put restrictive rules like the non-store on them?
I have not used up my 50 free for non-store for months now. The free promos occur so often and I have been lucky enough to get 75% of them, that I do not use up my 50 free. Any changes to promo details or the frequency of the promos would be a bigger problem.

I hate the fact that free listings will now be for a maximum of 10 days instead of 30.... More relisting...that sucks...
I might get a store for that reason alone....

Ya see! Time VS money. Cut out three of yer Stabuck's Lattes a month, boom, store paid for.

If you notice they also haven't targeted any of the categories that the Chinese Crooks are running rampantly over. It shows who Ebay cares about and who they don't.
Ebay will continue to run propaganda saying come one come all large sellers and small can sell and make cash and that is an UTTER LIE.
Ebay has no credibility any longer and quite frankly a lot of the practices are now bordering on corrupt if no already there.

I missed that. Where does it say free listings are only good for 10 days? As well, eBay.ca new rules start June 1st.
So, the first 50 are auction and can only be in the categories they listed. The next 50 can be auction or fixed price and used in any category that they did not list. Have I got that right?

That is what I am sorta understanding.
Store owners are being put in the VIP line and the others are going in the rush seating for the nose bleed section.
I saw this coming.

Seems that ebay is saying "Ya can't afford $20 for a basic store? Well, er, um, happy trails".
I do believe they want the small sellers gone.
These are the categories in question:
Antiques Art Baby Clothing,
Shoes & Accessories
Coins & Paper Money
Collectibles
Dolls & Bears
Entertainment Memorabilia
Health & Beauty
Jewelry & Watches
Pottery & Glass
Sports Memorabilia,
Cards & Fan Shop
Stamps
Toys & Hobbies
Then why don't they hive these categories off and throw together something akin to Kijiji - but a strictly an auctions site. A retro eBay site with different name. Or even better hive it off as part of Kijiji as it is already established.
There is still big money to be made in those categories and there are still millions of sellers and buyers who love auctions.

The people with stores in those categories might not be so happy being "hived off" to Kijiji - they can still list fixed price there. People without stores can list fixed price for the 30cent fee, too. It's only non-store people who want to use the basic free listings that have to use the auction format.

^That's a big fat lie. I'm one of the occasional sellers that's getting wiped out by this.
You are SO right! It is a big fat lie. In fact, this update is very, VERY depressing for me. I don't sell enough to have a store and ALL my items are in the "Collectibles" category!! And auction items do NOT sell very well - at least for me 😞
Now I know why I got an invite to open a store for free for 20 days.... I didn't accept the offer, because I would have had to cancel it after May 15 - or pay the fees, which I can't afford. And I know why most of the items I sold lately were GTC items... eBay probably showed them more in search results in order to make me *think* I had to open a store, because my items would get more exposure. But I know better. Sneaky eBay.
I will also have to search for all the items I listed GTC and close them, as I do not want to pay their stupid insertion fees after May 15.

Yes, they are. They gave us a cake saying "you can eat it all". But halfway, they come back and say "Hey, I thought about it and now that you enjoyed a bit of your cake, I'll take back the rest. Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted... and if you want to enjoy the rest, you have to pay."
Relisting auctions is much more work than the GTC listings I enjoyed for FREE for a year. Very frustrating!

lady stark and others, the new non-store fees start June 1 on eBay.ca. Here is the eBay.ca announcement
http://announcements.ebay.ca/2014/04/30/7598/
If you list on eBay.ca, June1 st. If you list on eBay.com, May 15. If you list on both sites, pay attention to the two different dates.

That's interesting. But I wonder if it could be a typo that .ca made.

Does this mean you CANNOT list fixed listings until AFTER you list 50 auction listings? I'm confused 😞
I don't understand why the change unless they are hoping more sellers will open stores that way eBay gets paid regardless if you sell or not.
I don't see much benefit for non-store owners - only more hassle. I was hoping to open a store at some point but I hardly get any sales in order to do so and now I think the situation won't be any better. I see lots of people saying their sales are tanking so I don't think this change will help.

You don't have do things in a specific order but unless you list in the categories not listed, fixed price listings are not free.

Except that most sellers are getting at least one Fixed Price promo every month over and above the "free" listings. Unless things change the promos are open to all categories.
If you are a "small" seller I can't imagine why you would ever pay for listings given the amount of freebies that are available.
