Has everyone added their SIN on the MP form?

I still keep being asked to confirm my bank info. I phoned eBay and they told me I have to add my SIN on the form, but I am not sure about doing that. Advice please.

I am just waiting for the micro payments and I am hoping that will then complete the process.

Has everyone added their SIN on the MP form?

There is a large discussion on this in another thread.  Bottom line, there is not legal requirement or obligation to provide a SIN number.  Asking for it is not correct, requiring it is illegal.

Strange, maybe they deem you are a flee risk or maybe they think you sell too much.  I was able to skip that a few days ago it was still Optional information. It did say however, ebay will be able to verify my information faster. Whatever that means. Maybe they check credit reports or maybe they are able to get the SIN number from other sources.

At almost 79 I am not going to "flee" far. I would love to be selling too much on eBay, things have almost ground to a halt.

The rep on MP told me 3 or 4 times that I needed to add it, I told him that I wasn't happy doing it. He seemed to think that I couldn't confirm my bank account until I did.

We are really being careful about how much personal information we put on our computers. There are so many cyber attacks these days. Just this morning I went to the library for them to bring out a book I had ordered. I was told that they couldn't scan my card because the instrument was down. I didn't think anything of it until I went from there to a grocery store, and they were announcing that they could take cash only as all the credit card tmachines were down. None of the produce could be unloaded because it's all done by computer details. It was a big mess. I really think the less we have that can be hacked, the better.

You can transact with bitcoins even if all machines are offline, assuming the hacker has not wiped out your crypto from your account as well 😉

NO.  Do NOT give out your SIN number.  It is not required!!!

Thank you. When I was asked to leave feedback for the rep who took my call I did explain that I was told about 3 times that I had to put it on, but I found out that was not correct.

I used my passport number.

But that runs out pretty soon.  I guess it was just a one time thing so no long term effects.

@triber   The stubborn ignorance of US citizens to concepts like "not every country is the USA" and "that is illegal in my country" is a sinkhole without a bottom.

At least the Filippino reps probably have a cousin working in an extended care facility in Edmonton and are aware that there is a country called Canada.

Fun fact: 15% of immigrants to Canada come from the Philippines, more than from China (129K) or India (147K) - 2016 census.

Well I have never had a drivers licence and my passport ran out about 30 years ago! Thankfully I have an Ontario Photo card that I got about 2 years ago so that I could apply for a credit card. It took about 3 months of visits, photos, lots of forms etc. to get. That would have been so hard to do now for MP.

DH was born in 1947 to a British mother and a Canadian sailor. In Britain.

After about 55 years, and voting in every election, and even running for office a couple of times, he learned he was not a citizen.

It took over a year including letters from his parents, who fortunately were still alive, copies of not just his birth papers, but of his father's birth certificate and copies of his great -grandfather's papers to prove that he was not some toffee nosed immigrant, but from United Empire Loyalist stock in Canada since 1784.

He swears the only saving grace in the whole saga was that his case in Quebec was being handled by a public servant who was himself an immigrant from Algeria and able to understand that important papers get lost all the time, especially if families are moving every two years.

Then there is my QC-born girlfriend who keeps being told she has to produce her baptismal certificate to deal with that government. She's Jewish.
