How To Handle US Return - Shippo vs. Sending $$?

I need advice on how to best handle a US return.

I know there's a way to generate a label on Shippo, but I can't find a post here that outlines with clarity if it works consistently, and how to do it. I don't use Shippo, I'd have to sign up and figure out how to do everything just to send this label. I shipped it originally via Canada Post at the counter.

The buyer is super nice and seems very honest, and the return is totally justified, so I considered just getting him to pack it up and send a quote, and i send the money. But i don't really know how to legitimately handle this, either. It definitely seems simpler, but I guess there's risk associated with it?

Can anyone let me know how they've handled their US return? I think i would prefer the simple route.

Shippo is a pain, and I don't use it, preferring Paypal labels when I use one at all.

But you have the first step done, in that you probably already have your Solutions for Small Business card.

The reason I suggest going to the hassle of the Shippo USPS label is that if the buyer doesn't use it to return your item, you will be refunded for it eventually.

With sending money, even through Paypal, there is still the chance that you will never see the item again.  Admittedly you then don't have to refund, but you have given a discount to a scammer.

I've done a Shippo label once, and it is long ago enough that I don't remember the steps.  And of course, these Disputes are rare enough that this may be the usual situation.

But it was straightforward, even for an impatient technodolt like me.

BTW - the buyer didn;t use the label, I won the Dispute, and eventually the label was refunded.

I think I'm sending money...My buyer just offered to split the return shipping....! What's the best way to do this - just send via PayPal goods & services?

yes, you can send return shipping money through paypal, but i think you have to send it as a gift, otherwise they pay fees on it.

OTOH -- If you send it as a gift, and the recipient is scamming, you have no way of getting the money refunded.

Sending it as Goods and Services allows for Disputes.

I am particularly cranky today.  The local raccoon ate all my tomatoes.
