I am surprised that there are a lot of Canadian sellers still selling CD's with postal strike looming. I closed my stores on the 12th to not take any chances. Maybe they know something I don't or just wishful thinking on their part. They show that they are still using Canada Post as the shipping and are not on time away.

Depending of where buyers are located, and what you sell, services like Chit-Chat or Stallion seem to work to keep some sales going.
For the stuff I sell, being low volume sale items, it's likely not worth it.

I'm ending my About to Close listings daily from now on.
And not listing anything new for a while.
The clerk at the PO told me that an Expedited domestic parcel shipped to Montreal today may not make it by Friday.
I am fairly confident that the US items will be across the border by tomorrow and in the hands of USPS.

If you're desperate for the sales you would stay open and try to encourage people to wait until the strike is over (I'm wondering if eBay extends the handling time?)
Also if your sales volume is low (like a couple sales a week) maybe you need to stay open in case someone buys. But we learnt last strike that USA buyers are not forgiving with the strike delay, someone posted negative feedback because of the strike (like that's the seller's fault). I get cancelling a purchase if you don't want to wait, but I don't get leaving negative feedback on something like that.

There are alternate shipping companies available just as there were for the holiday season CP strike. Many sellers opt to let the buyers decide about withholding shipping or shipping with alternate carriers.
I still have listings on my other selling site...they have all been updated with an extended handling time and shipping prices for my alternate shipping company.

I've put my store on Away status starting tomorrow until June 6th. Mailed four items today with two going to QC and two staying within ON. Hopefully they will arive by the end of this week. After the last strike I learned my lesson. Thirty-one sales with fourteen INR charge backs. It's just not worth it to me!

I still take sales.
I've extended my handling time to the maximum amount of days.
I've let my customers know of the current situation and that their items will be shipped out as soon as the strike is over.
I'll fully refund any customers during the handling time if they request.
I shipped my last package on Friday. I won't ship now until postal service resumes.

@needsmorerobots It's risky. Mostly because eBay doesn't seem to take handling time into consideration with their estimated shipping dates.
If they don't back sellers like last time and if they don't extend the delivery estimates, buyers could fill a INR as soon as the last date of the estimation.
And last time, they backed only sellers using shipping with tracking.

That's brutal! I would have thought they'd extend the shipping time during the strike, but I suppose if you sell items that ship without tracking there's really no way to win an INR.

Remember that FB is not used by eBay to assess member accounts (claims are).
You can leave a Response to any feedback.
"Sent Canada Post 5/12/2024. Canada Post went on strike until 17/12/25. Delivered 3/1/2025"
I believe leaving Responses is still allowed indefinitely.

There is UPS, Fedex, Purolator - and then there are alternate carriers.
Canada Post is only required for "lettermail" items, and rural shipping. Everything else is still accessible at similar price points.
If you don't want to use Chit Chats/Stallion, US shipping for small items below 2KG is more expensive, but if you sell items in the $100-$200+ range an extra $5-$10 in shipping costs to the USA is not going to be enough to shut down.
That is a major reason why Canada Post is in so much trouble. There is lots of competition and people in major cities can generally operate without them. Even worse, these strikes have taken long-term Canada Post customers and marketed alternatives to them. I never used UPS before the first strike. Now Canada Post has lost 5 figures of business to UPS because using them during the first strike made me more comfortable with migrating most of my Canadian shipments to them long-term. I'm just a small potato, imagine how much they are losing from larger businesses who discovered the same thing, whether it was with UPS, Chit Chats, Stallion, etc.
(Yes, I understand some sellers are in remote areas where they only have Canada Post. This post isn't meant to dictate that 100 percent of sellers have access to these other services.)

" because eBay doesn't seem to take handling time into consideration with their estimated shipping dates." Exactly!.. .this is a recent glitch as previously my handling time and "standard" shipping had reasonable and acceptable estimated delivery times for BOTH Canada & the USA ...Now extending handling time makes no difference for estimated delivery time to the USA>which is why I let all my listings end and will not list anything on eBay until this issue is corrected OR CP is "back to normal"...I still have listings on my other selling site as all works fine there with extended handling time and I have my shipping costs set up for an alternate shipping company....
