On July 19th evening I sold a sewing pattern. Mailed it on the 20th.
On the 21st I get four emails from the buyer minutes apart.
No1: Have not recieved
No. 2: Where is my order
No. 3: Need my pattern.
No 4: you got my money no pattern
Now I know that Amizon does next day shipping, but not snailmail. I took some deep breaths and answered each politely. I copied and pasted the expected delivery on the invoice. Copied and pasted my original message explaining the time it could take to arrive, etc.
I am hoping that this doesn't mean bad feedback. Not even within the US could this have arrived one day after shipping!

No. They can still leave feedback, but of course you can appeal it.
It's possible, if it comes down to it, you might get some relief on the basis the customer is demanding something that was not offered.

Not yet, just hoping to get a message that they meant this for another purchase. They have 5 feedbacks, so I don't see how they can think they can get one day shipping.

eBay really needs to do a better job of explaining to customers and maybe even new sellers that by using the optional generic shipping methods (either a choice or have been forced due to overly optimistic delivery windows provided by eBay) that things can and do take longer to arrive. If you throw in EIS and/or Intl shipping using the various postal services(with all their intricacies (spoke & wheel, limited border crossing points,accumulating freight until its a full load) , delays such as customs and now routine weather delays can and often does routinely cause items NOT to arrive as per posted info. NOT the fault of the seller!!!! As you noted, so many customers are just used to the Amazon way....purchases delivered by courier either overnight or in a few days eBay buyers assume/expect their shipments to arrive using the same schedule. This mess has made both the buying and selling experience not as good as it once was.

I've never fully understood the ramifications of blocking. In reviewing my blocked list in my 20 years I am up to a grand total of 3 users. I can remember the details from 2 of them. My personal suggestion (which I know many do not agree with along with Ebay) is contacting them directly to resolve issues...so both parties are happy. There is limited in the way of guarantees buyers and sellers are actually receiving back and forth messages. I've had messages blocked (with immediate warnings from eBay about trying to complete a purchase off ebay) for including additional part numbers. Huh??? Why I often suggest the direct route. No guarantees the info you will see is real but in majority cases it goes a long way when you can connect to solving problems when it's one to one vs back and maybe forth. Others might be able to better give their opinions to blocking and concerns regarding feedback.
I do believe many buyers and sellers respond to feedback in batches. I received 1 the other day from a buyer there was no way they had received the goods. And with eBay there are no undo buttons. You only really can worry about negs/neutrals when you have a bunch all at once or you are unable to leave a reasonable response reason.

You'll be able to get the feedback removed if they leave one about the delivery time and your order was shipped within the estimated delivery time. For your question about blocking a buyer, obviously they still can leave feedbacks. Otherwise every seller knowing they doing something wrong would block to dodge negatives. When you block it's to block them to purchase further items from you, and in your settings you can also decide if blocked buyers can't send messages anymore too (they still can on active orders).

98% of auction winners pay, those who do not I block. That is what most of mine are.

Imagine the abuse if just blocking a buyer stopped any feedback being left!

Feedback doesn't matter much, but you could almost certainly get it removed since you have messages from the buyer where they show they have no idea about the shipping time frame.
If you know how to take a screen shot, I would take a screen shot of the order page that has the expected delivery date. I would respond politely, remind them about the delivery window they were shown at checkout. Refer to the screen shot for their convenience.
Given what you sell, I don't think it is outlandish that this is an older person who isn't great with the internet, and has no idea how eBay works. You are right that they likely think it's like Amazon, where it should come in a few days. I wouldn't make them feel stupid or wrong, just politely inform them about their delivery date. Most people, except crazy people, will be cool after that.

Thank you, I did all those things. I was hoping for a reply, but none has come. They had 5 feedbacks, so they must know that packages do not arrive the day after purchase.
