Hello,
I'm new to Ebay and not exactly clear on how to link a bank account to my seller account now that Paypal is no longer an option. I've found a couple of tutorials on the web that seem to suggest that adding a payment option isn't possible until after you list your first item for sale, but I can't help but think that there must be another way. I recently opened a new bank account that I plan to use exclusively for buying and selling online but, before I go ahead and list my first item, I just want to verify that my new account is compatible with Ebay. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

There doesn't seem to be a specific link to register for MP, it just mentions that you can create a listing and I believe that you can sign up from there. Or, if you go to the following link does it give you the option to add a bank account?
Note that the account must be a Canadian based chequing account
-The name on your eBay account and chequing account must be exactly the same. Ex:
If Joe E Smith is on one make sure that the other isn't Joe Smith.

Welcome, glad you found this forum before going to far in. I will kick in 2 cents and the really knowledgable folks will be by to I am sure!
You need to register as a seller and have a bank account set up and registered with Ebay before you list. Be sure that it is with a Canadian bank and it is a chequing account. You have a one time only choice to receive Canadian or US dollars, and that cannot be changed. I am assuming you have opened a CDN$ account, but check that it is a chequing account - that is not an option and is required. Do not mess with the chequing requirement 🙂
This is Ebay's article on registering as a seller.

There is a process to register the account, and it will take a few days. Once registered you will be limited in the number of listings you can do, which rises as you successfully fulfill sales orders. It takes a few months to get to a reasonable sales level.
While setting this up, I recommend finding some dirt cheap items, like rubber bands, etc. with free shipping, or digitial downloads, to build up a few feedback. The goose egg is like a deflector shield to buyers.

Thanks to both of you for the responses thus far.

Oh, okay. Good to know. I didn't realize that linkable accounts had to be chequing. Looks like I may have to cancel this account and find an alternative. Oh well, better to find out now than after I have significantly more time and effort invested, I suppose.

I'll definitely take this under advisement. Thanks again for the help.

Also be aware that a new selling account with zero or low feedback is a magnet for scammers. You may get a sale with no payment and get a message to text them at a phone number. They will offer to pay more than the item is worth and have you send the overpayment back to them. Or ship to another address than the one in eBay. Or send you fake emails that they paid.
Sell your items with BIN with immediate payment. No auction at all.

Your name, the ebay account and the cheque account all need to be in the exact same name.

"I’m taking over an account from a family member so I have thousands of (old) reviews."
well therein may be a major problem if YOUR name is not on the eBay account. eBay's Managed Payments System requires that the name on and/or associated with the eBay account and the name on the bank account must be an exact match.

I’m having an issue connecting my RBC checking account. eBay support said it was because my bank didn’t accept ACH payments. My bank thought I was crazy when I mentioned this to them. Not sure where to go from here. Has anyone had an issue with connecting RBC accounts? Do I need to list my first item first?

I use an RBC Digital Choice Business Account and have had no issues.
