MANAGED PAYMENTS CORRECTION

It looks like eBay is walking back their threat of blocking sellers from listing after July.15/20 if they haven't signed up for Managed Payments.

I wonder why??

Hi silverpinups,

You may have received a communication earlier today regarding eBay managing your payments. We incorrectly communicated that you would not be able to create new listings after July 15th if you were not registered. This was sent in error and is not applicable to your account. We would like to assure you that no restrictions will be placed on your account at this time.

However, we do encourage you to register for managed payments here to enable a more streamlined experience for both sellers and buyers. You can learn more about managed payments on the eBay Seller Centre.

Yes, some messages come through the eBay message system, others go to my Yahoo email, they are legit from ebay.

The whole MP fiasco is so ebay!

It would seem the whole MP thing is an error...

...but yes, if you have even one listing on eBay.com in USD you do not need to "sign-up" just yet. Just like those who sell coins and bullion. MP can't handle it...

For those of us who have been here for "Decades", the cynicism we have towards eBay is because we were there each time eBay tried "something" new, so we KNOW their track record...

...and still see the "scars" left behind and the "barren" landscape too.

Think I will list a few coins and a few more .com USD$ listings today...wonder if I have any silver bullion coins I could list Silver is on a tear at the moment?!

@brettjet38

They needed to have ALL the answers before this rolled out. Not this "we'll get back to you" or "we are still working on a solution" at nauseum. I've passed through a number of messages regarding Managed Payments. Some as far back as 2018 on mostly dot ca. The questions that were being asked by us and others then are the same as many of us are asking now. Normally those discussions would get the token ZOMBIE tag. To my eye not even close to be considered ZOMBIE!! In this case the ZOMBIES were never killed!!!

EXACTLY...

...and in typical eBay fashion, they "hid" details or the "details" had not even been planned yet...

...like the basics, as in Sellers who sell on .com in USD. You would think a company as big as eBay wishes it was would have planned for that before "demanding" we sign up.

Like I said been here long enough to know how eBay "operates"!

I've yet to receive an invitation, and not losing sleep over it.

The 'register for managed payments here' link you provided takes me to eBay's home page.

I woke up this morning, we've got toilet paper and coffee cream, so life's good.

It'll show up.

Brett, I have not had a single mention of managed payments on any eBay message or any of my 2 email accounts. I am happy that at least I hope some of the glitches will be sorted out before I decide about signing up.

eBay's fumbling and bumbling is the reason that things get blown out proportion. I really don't care either way.....

I have 1000 eBay.com listings but got the register by July 15 to be able to keep listing email...I have not done so though. In fact with turbolister gone I won't be listing much new anymore.

....you know what I just noticed?!

Certain "members" who are always saying you "must sign up or ....leave eBay" and the one who is "constantly" spewing the "Virtues" of MP...no matter what anyone else says!

....has not visited this thread to leave a comment or "Push" MP. I guess we know why...

The world did not end, eBay "backtracked" why?

Because millions of members refuse to sign up...until we have FULL DISCLOSURE about MP and that it actually works, which for eBay will be a feat!

Im still listing without issue. I did throw up a single listing on .com for fun but never did receive a correction notice.

I wish ebay would give us a positive reason to adopt a large new feature like this. They say that we will save money but, let's be real here, it's something like $20 for every $10000 of sales I bring in.

Instead I get multiple threatening emails "this is your 4th reminder!" "this is your final reminder!"

The reason has nothing to do with eBay's customers, buyer or seller.

When Carl Icahn forced eBay to divest the profitable Paypal service, eBay had a (five year?) agreement to continue using it.

The contract is up and rather than re-upping the contract, eBay decided to start their own system using the Netherlands payment processor instead.

For history buffs, eBay did have its "own" payment service at the turn of the millennium, Billpoint, which they dumped in favour of buying Paypal when they were flush with cash, and not paying dividends. (They bought Skype around the same time, and a bunch of marginally useful other companies. Ahhh, the Noughties!)

The problems I see have mostly to do with the usual American provincialism.

They just can't understand that their sellers are all over the world and didn't think to consider than many of them (us) would have US dollar American bank accounts. Or would like to direct our payments into different banks as we needed money.  Or would like to save up money in our accounts to buy The Thing.

Immediate payment of eBay fees (which now include MP fees of course) is simpler in some ways, but it doesn't let the seller know how much she is paying in fees to eBay and thus makes it more difficult to tell if a given month was profitable or not.

Probably beneficial for eBay since many sellers don't know the difference between a markup and a profit, and even more will freak out over a single refund after years of successful transactions.

I've closed all my dotCOM listings for the time being, at least until I can add my American bank account to my MP account.

@femmefan1946

So I guess going forward for the Canadian sellers who listed on dot com in the past will no longer have access to the "au gratis" listings allocation they could use with Flat Rate or Free shipping if there is no way for them to link their bank account for US funds? Another winfall for eBay in savings?

I wouldn't close out your eBay.COM listing just yet... you can probably still list in USD for a few months yet (or longer.. ) before eBay is ready to integrate Canadian .COM sellers into Managed Payments.

DH and I are having this conversation. He doesn't feel the value of the American bank account is great enough nowadays for us to be concerned about it.
It was originally opened when our shop was buying and selling in US auctions and many thousands of dollars passed through it every month. We have since retired.

I understand I can still list on dotCOM and in US dollars, it's paying two sets of exchange that freezes my Aberdonian* soul.

This was posted from Charles_Payments on eBay.COM... "The email you referenced (see above) was sent to a small group of Canadian sellers whose business model is not yet fully supported by managed payments. Due to this, we are not imposing restrictions on these accounts."
