Sold an item. Item was under 1 lb. Shipped to New York.
4 days BEFORE the item even arrived in New York, the buyer opened a Return stating that this brand new and sealed item was defective.
I thought nothing of it, thinking buyer is just fishing for a refund and I would never see the actual Return followed up upon.
For every return case, eBay will send me a message when the item was sent and also another message when the item is delivered. I received no such messages regarding this return, so I assumed nothing was going on with the Return. Then the buyer sends this return to a case and ebay approves his case in his favor saying the item was delivered back to me. This was surprising since I never received the item and was never even notified that the Return shipping had even started.
I asked eBay for the tracking number of the Return. They provided me a Fed Ex label that does have a final destination going to my City. But the tracking information is all wrong! Firstly, the package is 22lbs and 20"x15"x5". I sent him a DVD less than 1 lb! Secondly, the item was shipped 3 days BEFORE he even received my package! Thirdly, it was shipped from California and NOT New York where the item was supposed to have been receeived.
I think somehow this buyer found a Fed Ex tracking number with a final destination to my City then told eBay that's the tracking number he used to return my item and I received it. Obviously this can't be true cause of what I stated earlier.
I've talked to 5 ebay reps regarding this, I tell them all this information, they ignore it, and tell me to refund him sooner next time. I have NO ISSUES refunding customers for valid returns I do them all the time, but this is obviously a scam. So where do i go from here?

Furthermore, all my Returns are auto approved and a label provided by eBay. I shipped him an item with USPS media mail. To my knowledge there is no way ebay would provide him a Return label with Fed Ex in any situation, let alone an under 1lb media mail item. So again more evidence of a falsified Return tracking number.

Stop talking to the undertrained, underpaid, overworked contracted phone reps and contact an eBay staff member either through the online chat option or by messaging through their Twitter or Facebook pages.

It is not a new scam but it has been happening more often lately. You might want to repost this on the US boards (this is the Canadian one) as they have more experience dealing with this sort of thing and they may have more suggestions. I would definitely contact cs on Facebook or Twitter as well.
