Are your customers paying immediately? If they do often the item sold message and payment message are an all in 1. If there is a lag you will see this. Your buyer paid and now it’s time to get a shipping label. I see 2 emails and lag mostly with US orders or when they happen to request a revised invoice.
Always best to rely on your payments page or check the bell icon for confirmation
As for the feature,
As for the feature most likely it is another option they have eliminated, but not positive. We almost never get updates when these kinds of things are magically removed or modified
