Patience is a virtue with GTC sometimes!

Just sold an item today (it was on sale though).

Has been listed since September 2009.... took just over 7 years to find the right buyer!

Bravo!!!  I am always happy when something that has been listed forever sells.  Now, after 7 years,  where in the world is it???

You are quite right, aged stuff like this worries me if I can find it, but I found it no problem (I file stuff by item number anyway) and I'm on the way to the post office to send it on its way (to Japan!) now.....

Congrats!

I know you are a big fan of gtc but I wonder if the right buyer would have found it if the listing had been redone and relisted in that time?  I realize that there is no way to know for sure.

Yes there really are two camps, the camp that believes there is higher visibility given to "new" listed items, and the other camp that believes items with lots of views, despite being old receive more views.

I have seen very old stuff of mine coming up surprisingly high in search results, but it has like 2,000 views (not surprising if it's been running for 5 years!).

My personal belief is that it doesn't hurt to let them ride, plus they get grandfathered for all the things that have changed in the meantime.

As well, I can't keep up to the speed with which stuff is selling, it is all I can do to keep my item count at 3,000 items, I've been listing like crazy the last month and finally got it over 3,000 a few days ago (it dropped to about 2800 before I took my August eBay vacation) so I really don't have time to go relist/revise the old stuff, it will eventually sell, and with 10,000 "free" listings each month that's not a problem either....

I do think that the on sale stuff does bring buyers and it tends to bring buyers back who buy more than just onsale stuff too... those pesky eBay messages telling you that something you looked at is cheaper now, see to have a positive effect....

But as always what do I know, I'm employing "management by exception" as long as things are consistent, I'll keep doing what I'm doing until they start to slide upon which time I'll start experimenting again.....

That makes sense to me. It's working for for you so you keep doing it. 🙂

Yet we get a big warning note from ebay to revise the listing if it has been active for 16 months with no sales. I hid my 'ebay notes' from view as a result of that showing on my GTCs.

That is a good point.

It is kind of contrary to the concept of grandfathering everything, however, at least in my case, if I have to go revise 3000 listings, the days effort that takes me stops me from listing many 100s more.....

From what's happened with the $US to $C end date extension (ie too many people hadn't yet converted), there's probably too big a volume of stuff that needs updating each time they change things that end up being grandfathered.....so they grandfather and hope the wee message prompts some folks to make the revisions....

Hi Amand...

It's not a gold mine, its a feature of the $299 US$ a month anchor store...... that's why I put "free" in quotes.....

I agree!!  I sold lots of my items when I get the 50k free listings promo each time, better than my 500/1000 free monthly store listings!!  So eBay, come one, give us the 50k free listings, so eBay can get the final value fees from me!!

No sales, no final value fees for eBay, very simple!!

We should call them GTLC listings.
