Shipping to parts of Canada now 2x what shipping from Canada to California is

If an item costs $10.00 shipping (Can Post) using Ebay's discounted system, shipping say to B.C. or Nova Scotia can be $20.00.  Could  this be because some of these they are "out in the sticks" and require an extra shipping step?  Add-in the fact we pay tax on shipping to Canadian destinations and it adds up.

It was always like that. I shipped once to a little community in Northern BC and was charged 38 dollars. The same package shipped to Japan would be 12 dollars 😉

Shipping within Canada has always been based on Size, weight & LOCATION!  We are noticing it more these days because of the price increases over the past few years. Thankfully for some of us, we can utilize the Canada Post Flat Rate Boxes that are available in 4 sizes.

I had 1 this morning. Wanted to use the #2 box with to Ontario. Would have broke even just adding GST for AB with prepaid box compared to the eBay discounted rate. Once you add destination tax/fuel and cubing, shipping anything with distance has become very expensive with regular shipping. My 600 gram box made as small as possible to protect item cubed to 1.3 kg. That same package to anywhere USA would  12.71.  Package to Toronto 24 and change. Limit with prepaid boxes is 5 kg...as long as it fits.

A lightweight package shipped within Canada will likely be handled by a different mailing service than a lightweight packaged destined for California.  The domestic package will be shipped by some variant of parcel post, while the package for California will likely go as a small packet through the letter post stream rather than with parcels.

Given Canada Post's financial straits, it might make sense for it to implement some sort of small packet service that can be used domestically.  It might encourage more use of the Corporation for smaller items and lead to a volume increase on the oversized lettermail side of things.  But that idea might bog down when it comes to getting these items out to their intended recipient.  I happened to see my letter carrier du jour today and he seemed to be carrying the load of three or four walk-routers.  I asked him half-jokingly if he wanted me to file a union grievance on his behalf.

Canada post has crazy prices in Canada. if you ship a fare bit of packages you can see if you could save some money using Purolator. Just remember Purolator will not ship to Po boxes.

You probably know that Canada Post has a 91% stake in Purolator, @vtwinparts2015. Are you comparing Purolator’s discounted rates to Canada Post’s discounted rates?

We have a account with Canada Post and a account with Puro both pass us volume discounts. I find Purolator to be very resonable plus the buyer gets hi product faster.  Yes I do relize the Crown corpoation has a major stake in Puro

Your shipping rates within Canada are insanely high! US$29 to ship a 78 rpm to me in Toronto!!!!! I have no idea how you are coming up with those prices

Your other shipping rates for Canadian buyers are almost all equally ridiculous, I have no idea how you came up with these rates.

FYI - You are in Mississauga, you have easy access to both Chit Chats and Stallion Express (that is who I use), you would be able to offer much lower rates AND make extra for your pocket. Your shipping to the US will be somewhat cheaper and definitely faster.
