Verify your information to continue selling, things that make you go hmmmmm

Wow what a day.

A wee bit ago I got two of these messages, one for phone number and email address and one for uploading documents again. (Part of me wonders if this is why I got the spontaneous "bot hold" in the other thread, but that was 2 days ago).

So I scanned my drivers license, sent it up, all was good.

15 minutes later the message is back again.

I figured the scan wasn't good enough, it was pretty small so I took pictures instead and sent them up, all was good.

15 minutes later the message is back again.

Arrgghh. So off to call my favourite CSRs again, they patched me through to the Managed Payments folks.

The problem apparently was that my drivers licence has my full first and middle name, whilst my eBay id only had my normally used first name and middle initial, so all I had to do was update that on my account.

This is where the HMMMM comes in. Whilst I was on hold while the MP fellow did his stuff, I confirmed my name on my bank account was the same as it USED to be on eBay and it doesn't match the full name on the eBay account now.

Two times I advised the fellow that I thought this would zap the MP payments, both times he assured me it would not because it was already verified and it would always stay that way. Despite that assurance, I'm staying in HMMMM phase until I see what happens tomorrow, that's my normal pay out day.

Time will tell.

Hi Lotz, and for those who tuned in and aren't sure what we are chatting about many major internet platforms including GoDaddy and eBay are requesting new levels of verification from account holders.

A good example can be found on YouTube posted 7 days ago by two large ebay sellers "Mr Magazine" and "Paper Goy". Although they have been sellers for a long time both rec'd the verification request from eBay.

I went through this with GoDaddy. Before sending your info to any entity I strongly suggest you verify the source of the request first.  I have no doubt believing if this is being done by ligitimate entities the bad guys and girls out there will try to take advantage of innocent folks to get personal information.

Here's a link to "The Million Dollar Pedllers" YouTube video. If you find these guys as boring as I do just skip to 23:26 in the video. They discuss eBay's verification request that both of them received recently.  If you have difficulty sleeping watch the entire video...

Recently happened to me on airbnb. I use it since many years and suddenly they asked me to upload my DL and take a picture of me in realtime using their phone application. Well, times change .....

WOW is all I can say, the payout came into my account AOK despite the fact my ebay id is now my full name and the bank account is not!!!

Good thing bets weren't placed I would have put money on the fact that the payout would have failed!

WHEW, one less thing to worry about!

Good news!   I learned years ago to use my full legal name on an;ything  financial i apply for.  I learned that the hard way.  No short forms for first names (eg use Robert instead of Bob) and full middle name spelled out. Always.
