Who is shutting down during Christmas

Many of you are shutting down for Christmas. Some simply want the time off, some have done decent this year and can take the time off.

Actually I could fall into both categories, but I choose to stay open. I have stayed open every year and it has been worth it. I find its a great time to sell. There are a good number of sellers that shut down for the holidays meaning less listing, giving me  better exposure.

Anyone staying open , I have one suggestion. Dont use auction. Do everyting Buy It Now. Though there are buyers out there , there is not enough to get a good auction going on your item.

Happy Holidays to everyone, and hope that Ebay lowers fees next year. ( can always wish, right! )

I stay open over Christmas, makes things more challenging to keep things out on time with xmas events, kids are home etc....

Normally my "holidays" are in the summertime....

For the last seventeen years on eBay, I always closed my eBay store and ended all listings before the end of November.

Yep - I don't start selling until about a week after New Years and stop Dec 1. There are just too many hassles with buyers who purchase late and want the item by Christmas - not matter what you may have stated as a deleivery date.

I had a knee replaced this year so could not sell after Oct/Nov anyway.

If I'm in town, I stay open. I think that people who are home from work or off school for a few days often shop online for themselves right before and after Christmas.

I've always had good sales in December, especially between Christmas and New Year's.  Not so much on this health and beauty site but in media.

I "stay open" as I never had issues so... that might change if I get any problem this year.

I do not shut down on ebay, I do go on vacation mode elsewhere. My best sales are after Christmas, when the buyers have that extra cash burning a hole in their pockets.

Are you using Vitamin E oil for the scarring? Makes a huge difference-- especially in sheer pantyhose.

And DO THE PHYSIO!

I won't close -- although I just did since I took DH to Cuba before the Americans get there-- but I don't expect much until Boxing Day.

January to March is my best 'season' across the board.

Santa Claus  will not be shut down for Christmas.... Mrs Claus is busy keeping him focused

Rudolph and his buddies who work on Santa's sleigh are warming up for a most hectic night

and .....All of those elves who work so diligently to make Christmas what it is are ready to help make it happen.

I'm going to stay open this year as I am trying  to get rid of some extra inventory I have and will be selling it as clear outs. I'm trying to get my inventory down before  the February date comes and I don't want to have a lot of stock on hand. I buy most of my stock out of Europe and with the Euro so high and the Canadian dollar so low I stopped buying any way.

Many sellers shut down over Christmas,  and also during specific summertime periods.

Christmas is family time...  Summer is holiday time

My store stays open... providing inventory that others are not selling during a shut down period.

Over the years  I have been able to track why certain inventory sells... during these shut down periods for other sellers.

I don't close, usually, but what I do to slow sales between the 23rd to 27th is allow most of my Markdowns to end. I do like to spend time with my family at Christmas without the ever-present concern that orders have been placed and must be same-day shipped. As a toy seller, however, I can't afford to halt sales completely.

After Christmas, there can be a looooong delay before any trucks arrive to restock retail store shelves and, more than once we have stood aghast in EMPTY aisles looking for something -- anything! -- to purchase for all the people who have birthdays in January and early February: three adults and five children. More birthdays than at any other time of the year.

In the weeks and days leading to Christmas, however, I am careful to add a section to the bottom of each listing that states the Canada Post Deadlines for my ship-to destinations. Likely, no one has ever read it but it helps to have a published reference for any buyers that might have placed a last-minute order and chose the slowest possible service to ship it. I do dearly wish that ebay could set ACTUAL delivery estimates to accurately coincide with their calculated domestic shipping costs displayed to buyers.

When a buyer sees that Expedited Parcel takes one to seven business days, they don't think, 'Oh, it will take only one business day if I happen to live across the street from the seller in Winnipeg!' they think, 'Oh! My order will arrive to the farthest reach of Newfoundland in only one business day if I am lucky! I feel lucky.' Not so.

And international Xpresspost: 'Delivery times may vary' does not imply that for $60 CAD in postage, you're guaranteed delivery within a set amount of time (usually six to 11 days) unlike with Small Packets Air or Tracked Packet.

Anyway, the Holiday Deadlines box I add is very time consuming to do because you can add a clump of text with the Bulk Editor more easily than you can remove it. So I end up having to do all that manually. I do like to revisit my listings to ensure everything looks as it should. I also intent to edit them for brevity in the New Year to reflect more accurately the new standards by which we will be judged as sellers. If all that now matters is ship- and delivery-time, that's all I intend to clarify in my terms that I don't think anyone has ever bothered to read anyway.

That's what I found out, the hard way, last year.  I still came across a few listings this past summer that had the holiday shipping schedule at the bottom of the listing.

So I didn't bother adding that blurb this year and just hope the for the best.

Who is shutting down during Christmas

I remember the first Christmas (two months after we opened).  It was so busy, my husband and I could hardly keep up with the packing!  Since then, I start getting ready for Christmas in middle of  June.  I like to be ready by September, but I still keep adding more  inventory.  The last few years Christmas sales have been disappointing so I took off last year from Dec.6-26.  We didn't feel like going anywhere this year so we stayed open.  We had a lot of problems with "items not received" in November!  We just look at it as a "bad period" and we don't back down because of it.

I know my fellow eBayers have worked very hard to make this holiday season a success.  If sales were not as expected, it was not for lack of effort.

I wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season, filled with love and happiness.  Remember, happiness does not come from just being loved, it also comes from loving someone.

Hi Fem - I don't know if my wife will let me wear panty hose.

Actually the scar is hardly visable after only less than three months and no treatment.

Take care

Who is shutting down during Christmas

I have to agree about Christmas sales in the last few years. Getting worse year by year. Best years was just before the 2008 recession.2005,2006,2007 were great years for me. I was so busy that I was hoping for no more sales, just so I could get off my computer. Those were the days. During Christmas I Literally  had $1000 days. I once made $8500 in a week. I'm happy now if I can make 10 to 20% per week around this time of year

What gets me is the lack of Advertising Ebay does around this time. Some years back they advertised every Christmas. Now the only advertising I see for Ebay, is when some one on a Television makes a joke including Ebay 😞
