So I get this email from Ebay that states:
"Canada Post Shipping Rate Changes
As of July 1st, 2018, the shipping rates you access through Shippo for Canada Post shipping services will change to reflect Canada Post’s standard rates.
You don’t need to take any action as a result of this change, and the new rates will be calculated automatically when you use Shippo to print a label on or after July 1st."
Clear like mud. Doesn't say what the discounts, if any, will be or are they just charging standard Canada Post rates now?
Anybody know what is going on?

predict today that Ayden will offer USPS discounts on ebay.com at launch
Maybe.
It is worth noting that Ayden is a Dutch company and I guess is used to dealing in a multinational market.
Which makes me more hopeful than Shippo which was is American with all that that implies.

I just adjusted down my shipping rates after figuring out I was entering in a higher value for weight.
Given that I suspect you are using Parcel Services - which are based on destination and are for items over 2cm thick, it might make more sense to list on dotCA and use Calculated Shipping.
Guess who is going to be paying these costs?
Your buyer.
Just as she does now.
Buyers pay all shipping costs.
Your shipping FVF is based on your first stated domestic shipping rate. Any others are irrelevant.
So if you are listing on dotCOM with a $8 economy shipping to the USA as your first rate, you will be charged 80 cents FVF. (96 cents Cdn.)
If you are listing on dotCA with a $14 domestic shipping rate as your first rate, you will be charged $1.40FVF ($1.12Cdn)

Yes I get that but I am sure there are other sellers out there like me who just charge what it costs them to ship & that is now going to be more hence more money in eBay's pocket for FVF. That is what I was meaning by that.

Ayden is barely past the startup phase of developing their business, they were just one more entity hoping to grow in the crowded payments industry before ebay came along. My guess is ebay has some sort of earn-in agreement already in place with them. They probably think they can take this small company, deliver their payment volume to them and earn / buy themselves an ownership position in the new larger Ayden. Sounds like a good strategy on paper ... pure speculation on my part.
Shippo was never a part of ebay's longer term plans, that seems obvious after today.

how is it possible that a local company like chit chats express with offices around toronto's gta can provide much better and much much cheaper shipping rates, ... how can ebay not make something like chit chats express happen?
ChitChatsExpress is half solution shipping company -- the Seller has to get the packages to them to use their service. The equivalent would be having eBay bring the GSP (Global Shipping Program) to Canada.
...
ChitChats bread and butter is taking parcels across the border to let people take advantage of the cheap USA domestic rates -- if the USA under anti-trade Trump ever decided to tighten up the current rules (for personal shipments under $800us) CC would be in trouble.

Wow... I just had my Canada Post commercial account downgraded to small business account because my commercial account couldn't get eBay's discount (that was NOT simple btw). And a few weeks later, it's gone...
So I guess I'm going back to a commercial account now...
06-14-2018 10:41 AM
Well, I guess it's back to PayPal shipping for me.
Never ceases to amaze me how eBay changes their minds about things like some people change their tighty whities. The Global Shipping Program is a disaster yet they stick with that. They buy, then sell PayPal. Policies change almost daily, usually to the detriment of the seller and they still can't keep foreign scammers off the site. Sales are in the toilet yet all they come up with is window dressing solutions. I haven't bought anything on eBay in years and don't intend to in future.
What good is Shippo and why continue to use it if there is no discount?

I'm able to provide a little more insight without getting into trouble I've also updated the AB:
"For years, Canada Post has extended exclusive pricing to Canadian eBay sellers. While Canada Post will be discontinuing these special prices on July 1st, Canadian eBay sellers will be able to access Solutions for Small Business rates on the Shippo platform."
So, Canada Post is not going to be extending these rates to sellers any longer as of July 1st. However, since you need a Canada Post Solutions for Small Business account to sign in with Shippo, you will receive the Level 1 discounts associated with that type of account when printing shipping labels on Shippo.

My postage volume pushes me to Level 2 therefore I am unsure what effect this loss of discount pricing will mean to me. I suppose I'll see in July.
I am displeased to learn this has transpired. As a seller, is there someone at Canada Post to whom I may direct that frustration?

Their Twitter or Facebook accounts may be the most expedient way to reach them, or I believe there is a general customer service number as well at 1-866-607-6301.

Shippo replied to my email and they stated "Any additional discount you have through your Small Business account will still apply! The only change is the discount through eBay."

So the only services effected by the loss of the extra eBay discount will be:
Expedited Parcel for Canada
Expedited Parcel USA
and Tracked Packet USA

The Shippo discounted rate is in addition to (combined with) Canada Post's solutions for small business or commercial contract rate up to July 1st. (it acts as an additional discount on top of our Canada Post business rate)
That additional discount will be gone. Every seller loses, business account or not.
If you never used Shippo in the first place, you were paying too much over the last year already since shippo's rates were discounted over any Paypal-created shipping label.

Any increases whether that be the yearly and/or semi-annual Canada Post rate increases or the lack of discount from not using Shippo, were always rolled into the price of the item and the shipping costs...
and NO, every seller does not necessarily lose..."I" do not lose ...the buyer pays the shipping ...
and life goes on..............

I order a beanie baby from china they charge $2
I shippo a beanie baby to USA $3.60
I shippo a beanie baby BC to Ontario $18
Its pretty clear where the issue lies, cpc.

Only if effects Sellers using one of the eBay discounted Canada Post services: Expedited Parcel for Canada, Expedited Parcel USA and Tracked Packet USA. Those were the only services that currently have a special eBay discount via Shippo. The rest are regular Solutions for Small Business rates. Worked out to about 6-8% savings depending on service used.

Hello all,
Sorry for the vagueness of the content... it was not intended to mislead, but to treat the matter as delicately as possible because there were a number of parties involved in this decision, and we as eBay do not wish to speak for all of them.
The rates we are returning to July 1st are Canada Post's standard rates.
Please know that this is not due to a lack of discussion on eBay's part--for obvious reasons, we very much wanted to keep this for our sellers. However, it was not possible.
Apparently, Shippo is getting a lot of frustration directed at them regarding this change--please note that Shippo had absolutely no participation in this matter. This is NOT Shippo's fault--in this case, they are an uninvolved third party.
Gee thanks for the info. So now why use Shippo and their time delayed invoicing? I am going right back to the source: Canada Post with their added bonus of reasonable shipping insurance.
