Best way of instruction a buyer how to cancel a return?

A couple of points:

 

1: Buyer has shipped the item back to us, we have received it

2: We have sent out a replacement, they have received it and are happy with it

 

Buyer is having difficulty closing the case.  And we can't do it on our end without issuing them a refund, which wouldn't make sense as we've worked the issue out with the buyer.  eBay sees the item as delivered to us, so are cautioning us to inspect the item before issuing the refund, and buyer says they can't close return on their end, but we suspect that perhaps there's something that they are missing? 

 

From the buyers position, what would be the simplest and clearest instructions to give them as to closing the case?  Has anyone here canceled a return request (as a buyer, not a seller) and if so could you give us the step by step instructions?
