I'm a relatively new seller and since most of you are veterans, I was hoping you could impart some listing advise. I usually list my items on a tuesday around 7pm PST and set the duration to 5 days. I get fairly good success with this but was wondering if you guys have found any trends of times and ending days where your items sell for more than usual.

The quick answer....It Depends!

Where are your buyers located? I sell to the Americas and Europe primarily so for my customers the "business day" starts at 6:00am EST and runs to 9:00pm EST but this doesn't give any consideration for my Asian buyers.

I rarely do anything other than 7 day listings, I don't see the point of reducing the length of exposure time unless you have a very high level of sniping.

Just by default most of my listings are done between noon and 9:00pm EST.

I sell only to Canada and the US. I only sell video games and the odd non-video game item.

I read, quite some time ago, that North Americans are mostly on the net between 8-10 pm.

The thing to do is try to figure out what ending times best match your customers ci\omputer access.

If your buyers are mostly on the younger side then late afternoon / early evening is probably best. Many of my buyers bid from the office and from home so timing is not as critical.

For your stuff I would guess 6:00pm - 10:00pm (eastern) would be the best and maybe ending on Sundays is a good idea.

Personally I find it very difficult to establish any particular patterns but again this may be because my buyers are too varied both in "type" and location.

I'm guessing that you may have a significant young male demogrpahic, and maybe their dads. (Reminds me of the joke: Q. How are video games like a woman's **? A. They're intended for children but their fathers end up playing with them.) On school nights your targets could be on-line anywhere from 4-10 pm. Looks like a nice broad range.

I usually have multiple copies of games to sell, should I list them all and have them end on the same day but in hour long intervals or have a batch of games ending every couple of days instead of only sundays?

It is almost impossible to base your potential sucess on someone else's in how they list for a variety of factors, even if it is the same item they are selling.

I would suggest trying it one way for a couple of weeks, keeping track of when and how bidding and sales went, and then try it another way the following week for 2-weeks and keep track and compare.

Even if you do this for a couple of months, trying it different ways and fine tuning your listings, you will come closer to finding the formula that works best for you, your products and the way that you list them.

If you list your items in the later part of the day you'll probably find more buyers for your items. As with every item more people are inclined to bid close to the end of the auction. If your auction is ending in the morning during the week than there will be less buyers. Although we sell very different items the trend is still the same.
