Updates to the Canadian PowerSeller Program

Hi everyone!

Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Vaughan. I work in the Seller Development team at eBay Canada. In my role, I am focused on bringing new sellers to eBay and helping our existing sellers (like yourselves) grow.

One of the areas that I have been working on is to improve the Canadian PowerSeller program. I wanted to share some of the improvements that we've made to date:
1. SquareTrade discount. We have secured the same promotion for Canadian PowerSellers as American PowerSellers. The discount is 30% off SquareTrade subscription services. You can find a link to the promotion through the PowerSeller Portal on the Other Promotions page under Benefits (http://sales-reports.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?PowerSellerPortal&powersellerpageid=9)
2. PowerSeller events. We will start advertising on-line PowerSeller events and any in-person events, including US events that are close to Canadian borders, on the CA PowerSeller portal.
3. On-line eBay shop for PowerSeller merchandise. We are looking into making the on-line shop available to Canadians, but we do not have a definite answer as yet. Once we know if it will be feasible, I will update everyone via the Boards.

I am going to be spending more time on the boards so feel free to send me questions/comments and I will do my best to respond. If you have specific questions about the PowerSeller program, I would love to hear them.

Cheers!
Vaughan

I may be entirely wrong on this but.....I don't think that PayPal has a choice in the funds transfer. I think it is some sort of law that funds can not be transferred out of the the U.S. in US$.

i doubt there is a law, otherwise we would not be able to receive wires from the US in the US currency, but we do all of the time.

Like I said, I could be totally wrong. I just seem to remember having this discussion with a PayPal rep a few years back and getting that response.

rbc centura is too expensive for service charges, might as well just convert the funds.

I think whoscloset is right. I, too, have been told that it's against international banking rules. I've had European buyers send US funds by Western Union but WU had to convert to Cdn before they could hand it over. I've also been told that, in a B&M store, if you're paid in US dollars you must, by law, make change in Cdn!

Our US account with the Bank of America in Wash. state charges a $3 service charge but allows a $2 service credit for Paypal deposits, so the net service chge is $1 ... I can live with that!

i work in a bank and i process wires all day long. if they come in US funds, we keep them in US funds and deposit to US accounts or whatever else, so I don't know what rule that says it has to be converted? Maybe western union has their own rules, unless it has something to do with direct deposit. Craig

Updates to the Canadian PowerSeller Program

A - PayPal is NOT a bank
B - PayPal transfers are NOT wire transfers
C - Western Union DO have their own rules, they pay out in the domestic currency for at least one obvious reason (it's the currency they have)
