Over Charged On Shipping

Hi everyone

What is ebay's policy when a seller over bills you on shipping?

Right now I'm dealing with 2 sellers that over billed me.

I contacted both. One told me a week ago he/she said would reinburst me the difference but still havnt. I did PM the seller again. But so far wont PM me back. Seems like just ignoring me.

Another seller over billed me for about $20.00 (give or take). Now wants to bill me even more money even though the shipping was never even close to what he is asking.

Seller operates out of Florida but is claiming to be an attorney in Canada??

(Its only up until now I let the issue of being over shipped go. I admit I found it stressful dealing with the whole thing.)

I guess in the future I wont try to resolve overshipping with the seller?? I gave them some courtesy. Bad ideal or good ideal?

Any helpful and kind advices would be welcome.

"Over Charged On Shipping..."

What exactly do you mean by "overcharged"?

How much did the listing show the shipping charge would be to Canada?

How much did the seller charge you?

How much did you pay?

I see you recently purchased "Zhengtong Daozang - Complete Set of Taoist Canon in Chinese - 30 Volume" where the listing indicates $130 shipping by UPS to Canada.

Is this one of the listings?

How much did the seller charge you?  More than $130?

How much did you pay?

To attempt to answer your questions.

The shipping was originally $41.00  (International)

(if I recall correctly prior to bidding I asked him if there was a cheaper shipping).

When I won the item I was billed $26.20

When I actually got the package the  shipping on the package was $4.90

I payed with paypal

I hope that helps.

when I got it the shipping on it stated $3.90

Fortunately a friend had a digital camera and I was able take photos of the shipping sticker for both items as proof.

You werent overcharged on those items that cleary displayed a S&H charge that you agreed to by purchasing, so there is nothing to resolve.

$4.90 to ship that big wooden thing?  From the US?  Are you sure?  I think there must be an error there.

A $5ish handling fee on the other item is not outrageous.

You weren't overcharged you agreed to their price when you bought the item, Doesn't matter what the actual shipping charges were on the box when it arrived. Give the seller a break he's gotta make a buck too. As well as purchase the packing materials and deliver it to the shipping outlet. And pay Ebay 10 percent of the shipping he charged you. plus the fee on the item what is it now......15% of the final value? somthing like that.

as far as trying to bill you more............nope can't do that unless you agree to it.

You need to look at it from a completely opposite mindset. When you purchased the item you knew the total cost and were you not satisfied enough to buy the item at that cost?

You would think that you would have resolved your problem about overcharging on shipping as you have been posting about it since way back in 2006.

"You werent over charged..."

If my memory is correct?? I believe ebay can? recover over shipping charges after you give low feedback star ratings to the seller. If this is correct. Do you know why they have it?

I'm getting mixed messages here.

No, that's not correct. You can report a seller for overcharging on shipping but there is no process in which ebay requires a seller to refund a portion of the "overcharged" shipping cost.

Each seller will have different shipping & handling costs depending on their locations, the buyers location, the size of the item, what materials they use for shipping, where they got their materials from etc.  For exampls, if I bought a shipping box at the post office, I could pay $4 for one box. But if I order 25 of them from Uline, I may may .50-$1 per box.

Usually when you see a high rate like that from a U.S. seller, they are using a service that has delivery confirmation as they feel they need to protect themself. Your examples show only First Class International is being used but they could have the wrong service listed for the higher shipping prices. Or...they are overcharging compared to the other sellers.

You can report those sellers and show that you don't agree with their charges by not giving them your business. If you already know what the shipping charge is and you buy the item..then you've agreed to pay that amount and in most cases, I don't think that you have a right to complain. If a seller states they will be using one service and charges for it but then ships with a cheaper service to save money, I do think that a buyer should complain as they did not get the service that they were promised.
