15/9/2020 Shipping to Vancouver Island?

You should be aware that because of smoke from the US West Coast wildfires, Canada Post has temporarily suspended deliveries.

Much of southern BC, including Vancouver, is also affected.

To put it in perspective, my carrier just delivered the mail.
Two stamps catalogues, an eBay purchase, Canadian House and Home, two Dominos flyers, a "we shop/you cook" flyer, a grocery store flyer, Canadian Tire flyer, a bridge magazine, a parcel pickup notice, a small grocery store flyer.....
Carrier was wearing a mask.

It's not pleasant.  I'm in the Alberni Valley and it's hanging down low like fog right now.  I've got a reasonably robust respiratory system but it's not too happy.

Thanks for the link.

My mom lives in Kelowna and has asthma so she will be staying inside for a while.  She should be used to it...it happens a lot in that area.

We got a solid rain last night in Victoria and that really helped settle the filth out of the air.

The AQI health scale:

0 to 50 is considered “good”

51 to 100 is “moderate”

101 to 150 is “unhealthy for sensitive groups”

151 to 200 is “unhealthy”

201 to 300 is “very unhealthy”

over 300 is “hazardous”.

Any chance the PNW states caught some of that rain too? That area must be in the midst of a biblical type drought.

Re: 15/9/2020 Shipping to Vancouver Island?

Delivery suspension isn't the issue - mail pick up and DC movement have come to a halt.

I've had two packages sitting at the Richmond DC since Friday- no movement. No pickup at my local post office, and they normally get pickup 3-4 times per day. Ughhhh... it's gonna clog things up like it did with the strike...

Of course, all my shipments going USPS through Kent, WA seem to be moving fine. Maybe American carriers are more hardy?

And of course, all courier service operating optimally...

I understand suspending foot deliveries, but most of these people are just driving trucks, and doing the heavy lifting indoors...
