Likely like a few others here, I'm in the unfortunate situation of being the only eBay conversant person in my household and of course a one man ebay show.
I was trying to figure out what all screens to print out and instructions to write so that my wife, in my incapacitation, could put my store on vacation and close any ongoing auctions. This was becoming a significant problem as she is not ebay conversant at all and not a computer expert either. As I was attempting to do this, I figured in the worst case I'd include the phone number for the ebay CSRs and if she got stuck in my instructions she could call them.
That's when the light went off in my head, I called my CSR buddies and asked what the process would be if I was incapacitated and needed my wife to call them to get my store put on holiday and auctions shut down while I recovered.
It was very easy, all I had to do is make her also authorized on my account. (The CSR told me that it is them that has to do the authorization, so a call to them to set this up appears to be required).
Once that is done, she can call in and tell them I'm incapacitated and she needs them to please put my store on vacation (hiding the items) and end all ongoing auctions while I recover because she does not know how to do it.
Having said the above, keep in mind I have an anchor store and a "special" support number to call, so I do not know if this is an option for everyone or not.
I did think it worthwhile to mention this as it is soooooo much easier than 100 screen prints (which will probably regularly change anyway)...... for anyone else in the same situation....

I remember once reading an ebay listing that said and I'll parapharase, "If you want to buy this item, please shoot me a message first to make certain that I'm still alive as I am old and sick and live alone and I could go at any second and I don't want you to be sad and disappointed that you never got your (whatever he was selling) thanks, god bless."
I've been thinking about that guy for years now. I hope he's okay.

I told my daughter to scroll down to: Vacation settings: Turn On
I also bookmarked this if things go south: http://pages.ebay.ca/help/account/closing-account.html
Voilà... to the point, and no paper!
This is definitely a good idea.
I was suddenly "incapacitated" a little over a year ago, with a little bedside coaching my wife and daughter were able to put the store on vacation.
Sure would of been really helpful had I left them some bread crumbs to follow as mccrlmn has done.
Closed the store after that episode.

Maybe more important than your eBay account is your PayPal account since that's where the money is (for the near future at least).
Wouldn't matter too much if your incapacitation is only short-term.
