I guess i got 'volunteered' to try out the new ebay message system. Another completely pointless change courtesy of our beloved Ebay.
Soooo...i go to my inbox to view messages i've received and all i can find are the messages i've sent. Can't find the ones i've received anywhere. And the messages are all goofy big.....4 message titles fills my entire desktop screen.
Mercifully i was able to switch back to the current/classic/old system. For now. Why oh why do they make all these changes all the time when nobody and i mean nobody wants them? Of all the online sites i deal with Ebay by light years makes the most frequent changes. It's almost a fetish with them.

At least they finally fixed the country of origin issue.

Is there a built in way to message them with any concerns/comments or would that be counter counter intuitive? Just be grateful, for now that you could revert back. That's not how things always work with eBay and their "fetishes"!!!!🙄

Button on the bottom right for feedback.
08-25-2024 06:43 AM
i didn't even look for a feedback button...i just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. To be honest i didn't really think anyone even reads the feedback button comments. I assumed the comments just went into a black hole and were lost forever and the button is just there so ebay can pretend to be helpful.
For now i'm safe with the old system.

I guess I got a different version.
I prefer it since it puts the entire message thread on screen in order. Much easier to follow,
I'm not sure about the left hand column with older unrelated messages. I filed those because they were no longer relevant and don't need to see them again.
Ah- I just saw how to delete the unneeded ones. Could be clearer but follows the usual system.
But when I deleted the unneeded Message (about a refused counter offer) it switched to the previous Message, which I had already dealt with.
On the whole the older system was easier to follow and filing was logical.

What happens when you suggest something to eBay...

so how do you find the old, read messages? From time to time i want to refer to some of them. My 'inbox' only had messages i've sent in it.
i wonder if they are testing different systems? I hadn't thought of that. Mine was a train wreck of jumbled confusion. The older system was clean, clear, uncluttered and logical.

Old messages are easily found. Just enter something appropriate in the search tool, could be a title key word, item no., user ID etc. I've found unsolicited offer messages by using the search term "offer". Shipping inquiries may be found by using the search term "shipping". Results can be filtered to members only and are listed by date. Scan through the list looking for the correct user and date, open the conversation, our "sent" side of the conversation is highlighted in blue font.

ok thanks for that.
But wouldn't it have been simpler for Ebay to have messages received in the INBOX rather than sent messages in the INBOX? By definition, inbox is for received messages and sent folder is for sent messages. Not in Ebay land i guess.
And what was wrong with the old message system that it needed this drastic re-do??

Using Seller Hub>Messages>Inbox>All Messages...all is still good...
On far upper right I see "We've updated messaging.Try it now"
No... I am staying with the old...
did not click on the" New" and won't until I am forced to do so...
08-27-2024 08:39 AM
i didn't click on it either. But all of a sudden there it was. Fortunately there was a tiny switch back to classic messages link at the bottom right corner.

I was forced to use it today. I had no issues, everything was there that i can see.
08-27-2024 06:20 PM
I was forced into it some time ago, and opted out right away. I use a computer usually. On my phone i am fine with it looking like a text message thread, but on the computer no thanks
The box to type in on the computer looked really small with the new messaging feature as far as I recall, has that improved? Not that the old ones that much better these days as its still only like 4-5 lines, used to be like 15. When your trying to explain to someone how to combine shipping and or purchase an item in general, 3 lines isn't always enough and having to scroll back to make sure a sentence/thought makes sense is annoying. There is a vast amount of wasted space on the computer version of ebay in a lot of areas!

HI-I got given the new system and quickly learned it didn't work for me and opted back to the old one.
I have two eBay accounts one for personal collection buying and one for selling. Both got the new system and both have been returned back to the old one.
I am now findiing that my messages for the two accounts are getting mixed up despite having differnet logins and account details etc..
I answer a message received on one account and when I push send it switches to the other account and I am getting error messages.
I do stay logged into both accounts at the same time as use both many times a day but they have always stayed seperate and perform differnt functions. I use Chrome and am on a desktop.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I haven't had that particular problem, but I'd strongly suggest using Chrome for one account and either Firefox or Edge for the other. That should avoid any issues like that.

Don't get me started about the new messaging system.
I took one look at it and ran in the opposite direction.
As you said, fortunately we can switch back to the classic version.
I'm refusing to acknowledge change and that's fine by me. I'll switch over when I'm **bleep** good and ready.
Now you kids go home and get off my **bleep** lawn!

Well, I got detoured to that new message system, why eBay, just WHY!
Returning to the classic format, my LAPTOP is NOT a Tablet, I want a useful interface, not a cosmetically manufactured "pretty face" interface, lol.
Garbage as usual!

When first launched, my reaction was very similar, primarily because of the ridiculously limited size of the new message text box. Yesterday, I tried the new version again, and was pleasantly surprised by improved text box behaviour. As before when initially opening a conversation to author a reply there appears just a single line of text box. However, once I began composing a sentence the forced linebreaks functioned very well, and most importantly the height of the text box increased as the number of lines increased. There will of course be an upper limit to the number of lines visible within the box before scrolling is required, I didn't experiment beyond a half dozen lines, not sure what the upper limit is. In addition, having typed a few lines I noticed one can pull the bottom edge of the text box down to expand it. My mouse has a centre scroll wheel, it is setup to freely scroll content up and down, this functioned very well within the text box. Considering the benefit of having an entire conversation history at hand and the current behaviour of the reply text box I'll be sticking with the new version.

I've been using it for months on desktop and it looks and performs just fine. Zero issues.
