Buyers not paying!

When I first started selling items, my buyers paid right on time, No hasslrme. But now, the last 4 or 5 items I've sold, the buyers are taking their sweet time paying..this is so odd. They let it go 8 days past the payment date and the the Unpaid Item Assistant opens a claim, and then they finally pay or the claim gets closed and I get my FVF reimbursed. Has anyone else been having this same issue? The weird thing is the accounts doing this aren't even accounts with very little feedback. 2 of my buyers had over 100 feedback left all with positive comments about them paying fast..so why are they taking their sweet time with me? I changed all of my listings to fixed priced and i am requiring immediate payment after purchase so I hope this helps, I just found it odd that after months of seamless transactions..im now having issues.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Is there any similarity in the products being purchased?

For example, I notice you have quite a few party or sun dresses. Are those what are attracting the deadbeats?

Have either of you looked at your listings on a mobile? Is it possible that the mobile is  showing slightly different information on phones and on laptops?

Both of you have Calculated Shipping. And given your bulky products that's sensible.

But is it possible that the shipping is not showing on a mobile and shows up only when the customer goes to pay?

That would be a turnoff.

Some sellers think 8 days are fast while I think 2-4 days are faster.  When I send the invoices, I always include "PayPal Payment only, due within 4 days at the end of this auction(s)".  That way they cannot complain that they thought they have up to 2 weeks to make payment.

I had a few buyers asking if they can make payment(s) in 2 months (as if they treat them as layaway!!) after they bought them and I was firm and told no, must make payment within 4 days unless they are continuing to bid or buy more which I allow up to 2 weeks but no more.

Re: Buyers not paying!

I recently changed all of my items to "fixed auction" prices and free shipping within Canada and the U.S

I'm hoping that will keep the weirdos away who don't like paying. It's just odd that I've had this happen like 5 times in a row now from seemingly decent buyers. I've never experienced this before.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Yea its just so odd. I even emailed the buyers asking if they required more time..nothing. So frustrating. I changed all of my items to free shipping and now require immediate payment. I'm hoping this will help going foward.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Yup, in the past month I've had 2, both were overseas to places I do not ship to.  Been selling on and off on ebay since 2000 and never had this issue. I also tried to cancel one of these transactions (A 0 feedback Nigerian account) so I could relist the item and ebay ended up giving me a strike because "my item was not in stock", I have no clue how I got this since I went through the resolution center, did not get a resolution and cancelled the item, why am I penalized?

Also oddly enough, and I don't know if it is a coincidence, the second one, I got a phishing email on my paypal email account the same day.  So not sure if there are bots out there that purposely buy things to get the paypal account emails to send scam emails?

Re: Buyers not paying!

neodragon -- You need to put the Block on countries (or continents) you don't ship to from your Sell Your Item form.

And the reason you have to give for cancelling the transaction is "Problem with buyer's address" or "Buyer request". The second is obviously more trickly.

These defects for cancellations are not well handled by eBay, because they don't give enough scope for the seller to explain the real problem and so sellers choose what sounds nearly right.

That being said, the best move is to open an Unpaid Item Dispute as soon as possible. This can even be automated. The UID closes after another four days, seller gets FVF back, transaction is voided, buyer get Strike as a deadbeat.

And sellers can, in our Seller Preferences, choose to Block automatically bidders with Strikes, bidders without Paypal accounts, and bidders from countries we don't ship to.

According to listings of yours that I checked you ship worldwide so buyers are being told that you ship to all countries. If your listing says that you ship there and then you refuse to, eBay will likely consider that as a defect because you are misleading customers.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Check off the countries that you are willing to ship to in the shipping section of your listing rather than checking off that you ship worldwide. Then go to my eBay -- account --site preferences --buyer preferences and check off that you want to block buyers with a primary shipping address in a country that you don't ship to.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Thanks, Ill have to do that.  I still find it weird that even if I do send an invoice to ship overseas they still do not pay, sigh.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Thanks, I have an unpaid open for this one guy, even though hes overseas I sent an invoice with a reasonable shipping cost.  Tomorrow should be the fourth day, so hopefully it clears up without a strike on my end.

Re: Buyers not paying!

Same here.   I have a listing that was confirmed sold and the buyer isn't paying or responding.  I feel like something else is going on.   I have since changed all listings to pay now but none are selling.  Oh well.

Re: Buyers not paying!

You replied to a ZOMBIE thread from 2017.

If a Buyer does not pay, after 4 days you can open an Unpaid item case, and get your ebay fees back. and the Buyer gets a black mark.

Sales rate is not effected if you have immediate payment turned on. The items you currently have listed will only appeal to a small segment of Buyers, so it may take awhile for interested buyers to take a look at your listings.

...

I have immediate payment turned off, but that's because I have set up combined shipping for some of my listings.

Re: Buyers not paying!

i have a question as I'm new to selling on eBay, my buyer does not want to communicate through eBay but via text and asked me for my PayPal email so that could pay-is this strange?

Re: Buyers not paying!

Yes, it’s strange and likely a sign that you have a scammer on your hands who’s hoping to send you a false PayPal payment notification.

SCAM!!

There is no reason for any member not to use Messages.

You are being set up.

Report the scammer to eBay, Block him, and DO NOT SHIP!
