Canada Post's service just continues to go downhill

Took a US bound package over to a GTA PO on Monday.  I made extra effort to get it out  on that day so it would get to the US and into Cusomts before May 2, which it should have easily since it just needs to be put on a plane bound for the US (at Pearson Airport).   The thing is still sitting in Mississauga ( i live about 20 minutes away from there).  Hasn't been touched.  Even if it gets sent to the US today it won't get there until tomorrow, which is May 2, so it's too late to beat the new tariff garbage.  Fed up.

I've dealt with many different courier companies now and their service has been great.  Quick delivery, never a missed scan, always delivered on time or usually earlier.   Canada Post seems to be oblivous to how the competition is performing as they are still doing things in slow motion.

I'm in GTA too (Oakville) and maybe I've just been lucky but the last several times I've sent to the US have been delivered way faster than they used to be, all in less than a week (hoping I didn't jinx it now but I'm taking a break again until we see what happens next).

I sent three out last week (April 23rd) and they were all delivered by April 28th. There was one extra location mentioned on tracking that I haven't seen before last week, they were at Forest Park, then to Chicago so they may be taking a slightly different route. Fingers crossed for you they just missed a scan and have already flown over.

And just to add insult to injury, Canada Post people may go on strike on May 25th.

Last I checked, the only Canada Post service to the US that has a guaranteed delivery time is Xpresspost USA. All other services have delivery standards, so your item will likely be delivered within that timeframe but what happens between the shipping date and expected delivery date is largely inconsequential.

Your buyer would have also had a delivery time estimate from eBay and would have seen that the item would likely arrive after May 2. If they chose to purchase the item anyway, that’s on them.

Also consider the possibility that the item may have moved through customs but the event scan information hasn’t been updated for whatever reason. It happens.

My most recent Tracked Pkt Item shipped mid-April (from Regina to Florida USA) was delivered in 8 days. Happy, happy, happy!

From the email I understood it to be May 22.

Can anyone confirm? I need to shut my store down before this happens.

Confirmation will come from Canada Post whenever they announce it.

What is the last estimated delivery date that eBay gave your customer?

Has that date passed?

Is your customer complaining?

The announcement from eBay Canada states that the six-month negotiation period between CUPW and Canada Post will end on May 22.  My understandaing is that this doesn't mean that CUPW will necessarily strike immediately after that.

Info from the Canada Post website:

At the end of 2024, the national strike was paused for the [Industrial Inquiry Commission] work to take place. At that time, the existing collective agreements between Canada Post and CUPW were reinstated and remain in effect until at least May 22, 2025. This means a labour disruption could happen as early as May 22, but not before. We will keep customers informed about any important next steps in the process.

So in a nutshell, you'll have to keep your eyes on the news, or the Canada Post or CUPW websites to find out what's happening and when.

It's very likely to speed up the process some scans just are no longer getting done causing the tracking/actual current status confusion. Probably not helpful that eBay is giving generic delivered by windows. Basically 1 size fits all situations. Also important to remember that you are at the whim of 2 systems working flawlessly which rarely is the case.
