Fees Charged on Shipping and Canada Tax

I sold a video game for 50$. The total that was charged to my customer was 80.12$ after shipping and tax( I am from Canada) eBay charges13.25% fee on the whole 80.12$. That left me with 37.65$ net. So eBay took 12.35$. that's almost 25%(24.7%). Did eBay make a mistake. I have never been charged so many fees before? Thanks for any help.

It's correct. Fees are charged on the total transaction. Note you're also charged tax on the fee that applies to the tax on the transaction. That's a fun one.

I did notice some of your listings have excessive shipping prices on them, so you should probably go through and check.  For something like the single DVDs, they should be able to go either expedited lite or preferably (if you're comfortable with it) lettermail within Canada. That is a massive difference in fees.

Nope, that how ebay charges. Fees are based on the whole transaction, plus tax, plus .40 non refundable transaction fee.

For sales to buyers outside of Canada, the fees that eBay charges you are based on the item price, taxes, and the lowest-priced shipping option you offer within Canada, provided that you offer international shipping in the first place, so that may have skewed your perception on what the fees are based.  Did the video game sell to a buyer located outside of your usual shipping locations of Canada and the United States?
