Glitches galore and general nonsense

Just sold an item. Go to SOLD and it's not there. Instead is listed as UNSOLD. Click back and forth for a while and then it disappears altogether. Wait a bit longer and it shows up as SOLD at last. Click on SEND INVOICE and get a message in a red box saying the invoice can't be sent because the buyer has already paid. Go back to item and see "Buyer hasn't paid yet". Is someone having a joke at our expense?

This sort of thing is becoming all too common.  Perhaps if eBay spent as much time on function as they do on appearance we'd have a site that works as well as it used to. Apart from glitches, there is the deliberate nonsense of the New Listing Tool. You type in a title and it immediately informs you "We've run out of suggestions" before any suggestions have been made. Nevertheless it asks you to "View possible matches" and when you do a box appears: "Continue without match". It's hard to believe someone has actually been paid  (a) to produce and (b) to sign off on such incompetent website design.

Text colour choices are baffling/limited. Font sizes are too limited(14, 18,24 Huh?!?). Photo editor "seems" to crash less from my recent testing(+ = Your results may vary). Auto enhance image is MIA. Background removal tool removes left corner...misses right. No brush/eraser editor. That was handy. Rotate tool was implemented by someone left handed. Normally rotate is clockwise or both vs counter clockwise. As noted by many you really have to watch closely any changes you've made, do and did get saved. (Biggie!!!) UPC lookup is very hit and miss..Especially for Canadian versions of items. Reduced options for international shipping. Especially flat rate shipping. Missing extended window option for letter.) Autofix for html to make listings compliant is missing.  No cancel feature within a new listing draft. Possibly, maybe hunky dory with app. More HS Minnow with a PC.

So to summerize...... you stated it bang on!!!

I truely wish they weren't so easy to find!! From reviewing discussions on com my list barely skims the concerns.

The repeated takeaway I keep hearing is new verion is way too app centric!!!

Just went to list a vintage piece of computer tech by part number and brand.

Ebay  first suggested category: Crafts > Home Arts & Crafts > Candle Making & Soap Making > Candle Wax

You can't make this stuff up!!! 🤣😂🤣

I've also noted with other sellers previously created listings, where a larger font (possibly personal choice?!?) current listing (post update|) displays with overlapping  garbled text. Unsure how this plays out on app. What happens when system upgrades are made willy nilly for lack of a better technical name.

So far, I have not had any UPCs - Canadian or U.S. origin - populate without receiving this message:

NoMatchFound1.jpg

The good news is this glitch is not a show-stopper in terms of listing acceptance...and buyers  do appear to be finding those items. However, it is a a look-up error, and as such concerns me in terms of product validation by eBay.

Perhaps simply a browser anomaly? I use FireFox and Edge.

Not sure if anyone else has spotted this but it appears there is no way to offer free shipping internationally. The switch(tab) is there for Canada. Possibly an oversight on eBay's part. I did notice previously that the option for selling with standard mail to USA (15) days is missing. And not seeing any sort of letter option for International mail. There may be still some sellers that have paper items that could go by letter rate. That would be entirely at sellers discretion.

-Lotz

Note: Canada letter rate is 2 to 6 days. City to rural, rural to rural, rural to city that might be very optimistic.  4 to 6 days for USA and 4 to 7 days for International. Dot com still has 1 to 15 days for letter mail.

Another brilliant "update"... select International Shipping and click US. You'd think that would mean that in addition to domestic shipping you ship only to the US. Wrong. Unless you go to the box below, Additional Locations, and select None you're offering to ship worldwide, despite not having entered any services or costs. What a stroke of genius to have a selection followed by a requirement to de-select everything but the selection.

I just spotted this on discussion page so guess for some it could be a major issue. Their esplanation of situation.

One thing I forgot to add, when using the "Sell Similar" function. If you are not an International Seller, be aware that the latest update in "Sell Similar" now defaults the listing automatically to "International Shipping".... so if you're not a seller who's listing your items Internationally, you'll have to scroll down and UNCHECK "International Shipping" or you'll end up selling your item to someone in Zimbabwe when you were only trying to sell your stuff in the Continental US....

I am still using the old listing form and have been using "Sell Similar" and have had no issues with the shipping part of the listing form(I ship to Canada and the USA only) .  I have no intention of using the new listing form - I have templates from which I can revert to if necessary. So the old listing form still has the International shipping section as below:

@mrdutch1001

From my read for US sellers if they didn't ship internationally when they used sell similar it was defaulting to yes you do. Another one of those automatic changes that can sneak by you if you are not watching closely. Also, see post 5 where buyer ships to Canada and USA but does not ship Internationally. In that case it's adding international.

In my longstanding personal situation on eBay even though I have Russian Federation blocked, when the region displayer pops up, magically Russian Federation is defaulted on. I have to remember to turn it off.

All it takes is using a feature once(accidentally or on purpose) and it "can" become a new default.

If we if we aren’t collecting issues in this thread about two weeks I was pushed over to the new listing form. When I created a listing from a template it pulled up my old (over a year ago) address for item location. I checked my template and it had my new address. I was allowed to switch back to the old form and tried again and it had the correct item location this time. So the new form was pulling from some old or I refreshed database I assume. I haven’t created another listing since so cannot verify if it still happens but it happened once…

on the topic of glitches, i have not had an 'item sold' email from Ebay in over 3 weeks.  I also have stopped receiving ebay 'deals' emails.  Not sure if the two are related.  I still receive buyer's questions emails no problem

On the topic of the new listing form.  It needs to be withdrawn,  re-done so that it actually works and then re-introduced.  The problem is these things are designed by people who have never sold online in their lives.  So they don't know what  they are doing.  It's also obvious that nobody at ebay made any serious attempt to test it before rolling it out.  Otherwise you would not see errors such as the text overlap above or the tiny field of view that only shows about 30 characters; scrolling required from there.

The only thing that will make Ebay's imovable management withdraw the form is if listings radically drop.  Then their bonuses may be effected and that will motivate them to action.  So either by sellers deliberatly not listing or unable to list, we have to hope there is a sharp decline in new listings to get Ebay management to actually do a competant job.

Sellers have been "dropping" their listings over and over for years everytime there is a disliked update/change/disgruntled sellers leave/sellers close their stores,etc.etc. so I hardly believe eBay will pay any attention to any drop in listings because sellers refuse to list with the new form...it would have to be a very HUGE decline in new listings before their eyes would even notice anything different...and then they would have to sort out what the problem was and/or why this was happening as they would be clueless...eBay is that incompetent...

I believe for many it has been more about sellers being automatically enrolled in the new form. There was little in the way of announcement. Suddenly you were in it. For a short time you could "escape". Then that ended. People are just never impressed when something gets rammed down their throat.

On the US side it was in the works for months. Looks like they waited until it was ready for Canadians and then it became a done deal..for everyone. Just a strange way of doing something that so many are used to relying on.

I found this in help advising that rollout of new tool would be Mar 2022. It's now September so it's been a work in progress and still "looks" to be. There was nothing that is easy to spot as a tutorial. Sellers have it thrown at them with either learn or die mentality.

New listing tool

Starting in March 2022, business sellers will begin to see the option to try a new listing tool. The new tool features a clean design, improved listing features, and a unified listing experience across desktop and mobile web browsers.

If you've been opted in to using the new tool, you'll see a link to Try the new listing tool at the top of the Create a listing page. Eventually, the business tool will be completely replaced by the new listing tool. In the meantime, if you would prefer to switch back to the business tool, you can select Switch to classic view from the top of the page.

-Lotz

Sidenote: As for the quick listing tool that link no longer works so no turning back that clock.

Sellers have been opted into many features(including Managed Payments) over the years here on eBay, circumstances under which many sellers left.. I don't see this as any different than any other "forced/mandated" situation thrown at eBay sellers over the years...

sellers come, sellers go...for a variety of reasons...

the new listing tool is just another of those situations ...

and eBay will again do NOTHING to apease the situation or its sellers...

To my mind, that if/when they implement something....especially anything critical to eBay workflow...they make sure it is working first. From the comments I get from many other sellers they agree(Established and newer sellers). As of late, that does not seem to be the eBay mindset?

Similar to what is going on when MP stops working for payment processing and sellers are having their funds held for unknown reasons.

Since it fits the needs (perhaps?) of phone listers, fine, keep it for phone listers.

Call it the KwikList tool. Or the eList tool. Something that sounds cool. (Is 'cool' still cool? Or has it gone the way of the fez?)

And make the Advanced/Business tool available again for those of us who prefer to let our customers know exactly what they are buying.

Then call it that, so that the newbies and the dropshippers will avoid it.
