Sounds like a strange variance but with Canadapost anything is possible. It's comparable to the random difference on some parcels between regular and expedited in Canada. I always choose the Expedited. Past experience Expedited to the USA seems to get a few more scans and arrives a couple of days quicker. Maybe you can put the 7 cents towards a large vs a medium at Timmies!! Ahhhh the good life!! 🙂

If it's over 1kg in weight it needs to go Expedited to the USA. The question has taken care of itself, as it's the only option available to you.
Tracked is passed of to USPS as a First Class Parcel, whereas Expedited is passed of as Priority. In terms of delivery time we haven't honestly seen much difference.

Was the tracked service 1 to 2 KG's option showing as it should as per the recent modifications from Canadapost in Shippo/Paypal/CP when you went to process? Also would depend on what the buyer has requested. It would be at your discretion to upgrade. Some customers get upset if you were to downgrade.

Hi Basso, as of January 14th tracked options to the USA now goes up to 2KG (new up to 1.5 and up to 2kg categories have been added).
Yes the different handling creates more updates for the Expedited packages, which might be an advantage.
(My postmaster pointed out that Expedited has a guaranteed delivery date, tracked does not).
Today's went out tracked, I might be too lazy (or maybe it is better to say too busy!!!) to look up and compare the rates every time....time will tell!
(PS Lotzed most of my items are "free shipping" so I've committed to nothing, and I'm a stamp guy so I'm a "stamps on the box" kinda guy, I don't use any shipping tools)

Cost of Expedited is 7c cheaper than tracked.
Hmmmm.
That's odd. Were those counter rates...online rates?
I've always found that TP is less expensive, however with the higher TP rates, it seems that can change if the distance is fairly close.
Just did a quick experiment:
Tier one small business rate for a 2kg package- 25x18x2
Alberta to NY TP - $26.03 Expedited USA - $29. 13 Difference = TP is $3.10 less
Alberta to Washington state - TP - $26.03 Exp. USA - $25.16 With a shorter distance, Expedited is .87 less.
Using a larger package....
Tier one small business rate for a 2kg package 40x40x10
Alberta to NY - TP $26.03 Exp. USA $33.08 Difference - TP is $7.05 less
Alberta to Washington state - TP $26.03 Exp. USA $28.56 Difference- TP is $2.53 less

Tracked Packet is the same cost to all locations in the US.
Expedited Parcel varies in cost in relation to seven different zones across the US.
Tracked packet is airmail..... not too sure about Expedited....

Thank you, I was aware of that. What I wasn't aware of was that TP could ever cost more than Expedited but apparently with the new higher weight allowed for TP, that can be the case.

The seven zones in the US differ in relation to where you live in Canada.
The states in Zone 1 will be different if you live in eastern Canada, western Canada, or central Canada. The farther the parcel has to travel the higher the zone number.
The higher the zone number, the higher the cost.

My understanding for years now is that Expedited Parcel Canada has a guaranteed delivery time but Expedited Parcel USA does not. But I no longer sell or ship for 3 years now so I could be mistaken.
This document at Canada Post seems to confirm what I remember.

Only Priority USA and Xpresspost USA has On Time Guarantee on the above page.

Hmmmm.
Nothing new. If a buyer was in Zone 1 (closest to a seller and lowest rate of the 7 zones) for Expedited Parcel USA, it was possible for Tracked Packet USA to be slightly cheaper for Zone 1 and just cents under or over for Zone 2.
I used to study the rates each year when the rates came out looking for these differences Expedited Parcel USA and Tracked Packet USA, especially the first year Tracked Packet came out. Of course this study was done when there real discounts by eBay for Expedited Parcel (18%) and Tracked Packet (14%). The fuel surcharge changing each month would play games with my comparisons of the two rates but I knew if the buyer was in Zone 1 for me, there was a good chance it was cheaper to use Expedited Parcel so I would check.
With the new lower discount rates only from Canada Post site, I am a bit surprised that there still may be a difference (apparently not significant) for Expedited Parcel USA Zone 1 and Tracket Packet USA.

Wow, today I learned about USA zones, I always thought it was a flat rate across country.
The delivery standard used to be 6 days for Expedited and 7 days for Tracked packet, but now they just say 6-7 days for both.
Also I don't think you can buy additional insurance for Tracked Packet.

I think this is what you meant?
It's convenient to use Shippo; it shows you the rates for all possible services so I just go with whatever's cheaper

Flat rate for letter, small packet air, and tracked packet.
Zones for expedited, xpresspost, priority etc. The differences can be quite significant for Washington VS Hawaii, for example.

The 1 kg is now 2 kg that you are allowed for tracked parcel to the US and overseas as of January 14th.
When you do your listings ebay hasn't caught up yet or something going on that I am not aware and will not accept the tracked parcel as an option if its 2 kg or under. Rather annoying considering we are on February 1st.
